LCD and Plasma Bargains

Can we have a separate discussion thread and let this be the bargains thread only?

I personally appreciate the talks, pro's & con's are what may make some forumites (& lurkers) buy a certain TV from a store even if someone was talking about glare comparison by bobbing and weaving.

Lol :D I agree. If we only ever posted bargains in here then I doubt we would post very often. I have learned a lot from reading in these threads. FWIW apparently Dionwired has the PS50C550 for R9999 at the moment..

lol, I started a thread general plasma & lcd discussions.

I also never know wtf to post general Q's. So we could use that thread, otherwise can just stick here :p

House & home got a LG32LD310 for R3399. Seems to be a good deal.

Lol...you should have seen me bobbing and weaving around to make sure that I wasn't just seeing things. There were a bunch of chicks behind me that I could see relatively easy on the C450 and then I moved around until I could see them in the C550 but I could barely make out their figures! :D

So the 450 is better?

The C450 does have quite a lot of reflection, but yeah if you are in a sunny room or have big windows in front to the TV I wouldn't recommend it. At least not for day time viewing.

:D

But not better for checking out the sun or bright lights behind you. :)

The more reflective ones are only useful in stores. ;)

Anybody here purchased a LED/LCD from B&H photo in the USA? Looks like $1500 for a 60" LED is quite attractive....

Problem is getting it INTO the country, as well as whether it will actually work here...

No, because they'd be in for quite a few $ if they ever had problems with the LED edge-backlit LCD, and had to ship it back for warranty.

Depending on the model, it might only be attractive for gaming/PC/HD TV, and not for SD TV/sport.

You certainly won't get that one past customs :p

You guys do realise he owns/is part of WantItAll, who import goods from the US?

I'm pretty sure this is why he's asking... And knows full well about customs.

Maybe he has connections?

Hi guys,

Ya, I run wantitall.co.za and we can import TV's, however there are some issues. DHL wont insure TV's from the USA, which is the major problem, but we can use some other couriers, and get around this.

No issues at customs, we can get the stuff through.

My only concern is that we've imported some TV's a few years ago, and they worked 100% with PS3/XBOX, but not with DSTV. HDCP errors. So I've done some reading and apparently there were issues with 50hz vs 60hz from the DSTV decoder.

I just want to know if somebody has imported a TV recently and it worked in SA. 'cos if it does, I have no problem testing out the process and getting a 60"LED from the USA. I just want to make sure it works on DSTV - thats my only requirement.

Edit: We used HDMI to connect TV to DSTV on a HD PVR

Any thoughts/ideas welcome?

Well besides testing, if you like your DSTV, you'll be better off with a 60" plasma. ;)
