I had issues with LG, thus hate them and always refer to them as Lousy Goods. . . However I know they do make some quality products, I was just unlucky I guess :p

In their defence, I've still got a 15 year old Goldstar CRT/VCR combo that works a charm. Think my plasma is better at SD TV though...

Brilliant price, one of the most popular plasmas on this forum (bar its baby brother, the PS42C430).

You simply cannot get better value for money.

To quote another forumite as best I can, they are the kings of the lower/entry level market.

Still not interested in Samsung, eh?

Thanks for all the replies.
A friend of mine also bought a Samsung Plasma and it been in for repairs after 4 months.
Just like i have faith in Renaults - mines has been lost on Sammy.

The best advice is always to have a look but thanks for all the advice which gives me a heads up.

R7899 is a awesome price!

Go with the Samsung! HD vs HD ready is a marketing feature.

I can already see something I don't like. Actually two things.

Firstly, a plasma with a back-light? :erm:

Secondly, 60,000 hours? Samsungs are 200,000 hours before half life.

I am going to look at Game, LG 42" plasma for R5500, for the room, or for lounge
Sammy 55" Plasma for R7999 (house and home) (though not sure how i am going to transfer it in my car) and
Sony 46" LCD for R11999 from hifi corp.
I hope they can connect a PS3 to the latter 2.

Glad you're going to give Samsung a chance. In the case of the 42", I'd still recommend the Samsung version - based on the fact that is more popular, better documented, proven quality, etc.

If they can't then I'm sure you can take yours in.

I do agree, there is defn something there.
Which is y i went initally for my Sony which is 33k:1 as compared to LG Scarlet 100k:1, sammy 40k:1, and did not notice a difference.

But, and not sure if contrast ratio is the right measure, you can correct me, if i look at (and have tried this out) at cheaper LCD's with ratios from 2k to 15k, they just dont look so bright and sharp when compared to a Sony or Sammy with ratios >30k (and this in the same environment).

Recently helped my b-in-law buy a TV, started with Logik LCD 15k:1 then to Sammy Plasma - so much brighter and crisp but then to LG LCD (33k:1) similar to Sammy but better for PS3 but not for SD.
BTW, the dude was crazy, could not make his mind up, at one stage, had 3 TV's in his house.

1000:1 - 2000:1 might have been the static contrast ratio, which is of most importance. When you start seeing numbers in the tens of thousands into the millions , it's fair to assume it's a bit of marketing gimmick - that's dynamic contrast ratio, which is a lot less important and bordering on irrelevant, if you have a normal room. Under normal home theatre room conditions, with curtains and no shop fluorescents :D, 1000:1 - 2000:1 is standard and perfectly acceptable. In any case, running your LCD/plasma on "torch mode" (high brightness/contrast" is only going to make it break/die sooner.

LCDs will more often than not appear brighter than plasmas. This is why LCDs are better suited for bright rooms, offices, etc. Sure, if you have a bright room, consider dynamic contrast, and LCD only.

Well, LCD does generally have a higher brightness than p
