LCD and Plasma Bargains

Where ever SD media/SD TV/sport is a necessity, I would recommend plasma. If you can only get a 32" because of size constraints, and it must be for TV, you need to look at the Samsung 6 Series.

I would go to AudioVision - they've had some good prices recently. Tafelberg too. Whatever the cheapest price you find is, take it to Game and they'll match it and give a further 10% of the total difference in their price and their competitor's better price, as a discount.

Woah, seriously? What exactly would you need to take to Game for them to accept that?

Will check out Tafelberg tomorrow and AudioVision on Tuesday. I check the AV site and they have a special for a full HD 47" hitachi. Old price was R15k and now its only R4k. My question is...what's wrong with it?

Proof of the price, or their word - Game will phone the other shop to confirm the price.

It's LCD... →:p;)

Seriously though, plasma suits your needs and is much cheaper for a much bigger size. Go and see the PS50C430/450. :)

Just in casually looking at prices this past few days, 4k for a 47" is far and away the best price I've seen. A plasma at that size for cheaper? I'll believe it when I see it :-P

In general, plasmas suffer from burn in and image retention from static images. Manufacturers do point this out in the manual and have a comprehensive FAQ on the net about it. Warranties will not cover this, as it's user error. They generally don't recommend a static image (ie the start bar). That said, MyBB members are excluded from this

But if I only use it for watching movies and gaming from the PC, surely that should be fine?

movies and gaming are perfectly fine, the point of his post was static images. So take a racing game for example, you'll have your speed dial in the same position for very long, this will cause the plasma to retain the image. But not al games have static images. It also depends on the brightness of the image.

You only really need to worry about this in the first 100 or so hours. As plasmas age, they get better :)

Postman, looking at the PS50C430, I don't think you saw that the Hitachi price is R4000 on special. Between the two TV's I can't spend more than 10-12k TOGETHER. So that Hitachi looks a hell of a deal, unless there's something fundamentally wrong with it. Can't seem to find too much info online about the model.

Oh, well that's fine then. I'll probably watch porn for the first 100 hours anyway :-P

I can't seem to load the AudioVision specials. I'm pretty sure it was a typo, and they meant R14,000. R4,000 for a 47" LCD is impossible, unless it's a demo/refurbished/shop-soiled, etc.

Here's a snapshot. As you say, suspiciously low price...hmmm...

Which one would you reccomend, Sammy Ps42c430 or LG 42PJ350R 42...Mainly to be used for SD TV, Sport and watching series from my computer/usb from HDD. Would the C450 be worth the extra R500 over the other two? If yes do you think there might be a problem/ hidden costs considering its from an online store.http://www.pricecheck.co.za/offers/10946946/Samsung+PS42C450+42%22+Plasma+TV/

Samsung PS42C430.

Samsung PS42C450 is definitely worth R500 more - has an anti-reflective coating, better menu system, USB media player, FM radio, extra HDMI port, and some other small features.

I see that price is from Ikonic IT - 100% legit website. However, I am sceptical that that is the real price, as I've never seen a PS42C450 that cheap before. Worth an enquiry though.

Otherwise, you could take their price to a brick & mortar store like Game/Makro/Hirsch (you in Jo'burg?), and they should match it. Game will beat it.

40c530 Samsung LCD at Makro this weekend for R5999. Take it to game and get it for less! Really not a bad price at all. BTW, was next to LG 42"(something or other). LG was unbelievable. Really smart TV. Just don't know the model number. Had a 6 in it.
