Looking for a decent 85" TV

My space needs a bigger TV and I'm looking for some advice and how to choose an 85" or similar size model. I'm currently using a Samsung 43" RU7100 and honestly it's been great so thinking of staying with the Samsung LED's but not sure how they fare at the larger screen sizes.

OLED is out of my price range and I'm not sure if QLED would be worth the extra bucks. There's a CU7000 and DU8000 going for around 20k which looks decent so if anyone has those in 85", would appreciate your opinion.

Is a large group of people going to be watching at the same time, or do you have a really big distance from the couch to the TV?

Reason I ask is there is not much difference between a 75" and an 85" other than the viewing distance being a bit longer, which allows for more people to watch at once.

If it's just a few people then rather just sit a bit closer to the TV and save the cash.

75" is plenty big. And since it's the same resolution, sitting close to the 85" is pointless cause you will start seeing the pixels.

Point is, at these sizes, the viewing result is basically the same and it's just the viewing distance that changes.
 
I have no idea why so many people go for Samsung when buying TV's.
Their value is sh*t compared to Hisense etc.

The U7 series is known for their great value for what you get.
I'm using the Hisense 65U7H.
That 85" U7N would be awesome... trying to resist the temptation myself.

Agreed, Hisense and TCL have made the big brands' mid-range offerings irrelevant.
 
Okay I'll forget about that Q60D since it has quite a few shortcomings. I know Hisense offers good value but I'd prefer to buy Samsung or LG at these price points.

A 75" TV with Mini-LED, Quantum dot, 144Hz and can do 1500 Nits is insane value and keeps you at the original price point.
Personally, I won't go over R20K for a TV.... These things don't last forever anyway.

I'd rather spend that additional budget on a proper box to run it (Hisense VIDAA sucks ass!) or/and get an LED strip and HDMI colour sync box for the rear of the TV, I did that with mine and will never use a TV without colour backlight again.

You're going to just get a worse TV then. It's your choice though, but with this budget you're getting such bad value with Samsung and LG compared to Hisense and TCL.

If you move up to a larger budget then the Samsung and LG are good picks again (although I wouldn't get an LG that isn't an OLED).

It's for the lounge and the sofa is 4m away from the wall. When I did one of those TV distance calculations, it said to get an 85".

I don't mind getting a 75" if it provides a good experience but I think an 85" will be more cinematic. It's mostly for streaming and watching movies and series.

QNED mini leds are quite good

I sit about 2.5m away from my 75". That distance is enough to accommodate 4 people sitting next to each other without anyone having to "look sideways" too much.

You'll need to sit a lot closer than 4 meters to get the proper cinema vibes. At least 3m I rate.

Yeah will have to sacrifice a few features but will see how much the prices drops in the new year.

Sounds like 85" will be good then. 100" will be better but let's not go there...

Yep, go big. 4m is plenty for a big TV.

I was looking to go 98/100 but the prices for the top mini-LED TVs at that size just are too crazy still, so I settled with a 77" OLED.

The OLED must be amazing though and since you're used to it, the next upgrade can be the 98/100 when prices come down.
