I’m in a similar space as OP

But my main tv now is the Hisense 65q8600 which is amazing. With some flaws of course.

I’m seated 4/4.5m away and that tells me 85”, but a 75” might be good as well. If i should consider the 75” route, then u7n from Hisense. No brainer, for the price you are getting a very good TV which samsung nor LG can match.

I saw the Hisense 85” Q6N but i have no idea how that big boy performs, especially sports, netflix et c. No gaming

Samsung Q 60/70 is a no go for me, I saw them at Kloppers and was quite surprised how they lacked quite a few basic features

I went and saw a 75" and that thing is plenty big so another option is to move the sofa's forward a little and use a TV stand if need be. There's a big price difference from 75" to 85" so I'm leaning towards the 75" route.

A note on the u7n - it uses a different panel on the 75" model.

The 75-inch model uses an ADS Pro panel, so it performs a bit differently than the other sizes, with worse contrast but a better viewing angle.

Indeed, the panel type was changed
But having a look at reviewers their panels(75”) still looking amazing!

Bud of mine, his father has a 75” samsung (entry level) and sits 4-5m away and it still works perfectly, it still has that ‘big tv’ feel in that large room
 
Went to our local Kloppers
The place was empty, black Friday did a number on the TV section. Guy stated they eventually sold the demo display models as well

They had 65-75-85” right next to each other, and i’ll be honest, my heart wants a 85”, but as a few mentioned, that price jump from 75 to 85 is just heavy!

They had several LG left, but their Hisense and Samsung was cleaned out.

Doing some homework yesterday, the two options for a 75” will be the Hisense u7n, or if you want the deeper blacks of a VA panel, the TCL C755 (C805 in EU and QM7 in US) Rtings has this this the direct competition for the Hisense and they stated its motion handling was better when it came to local dimming

You can get both these 75” tv’s for R20k

You have another option
Hisense u6n pro (nothing is different between the non pro and pro model)
Cheaper but has quite a few of the same things as the U7n, I can’t find the 85” model though. Would have liked to see the prices on the 85” U6N

The pro is the same as the rest of the world, the non pro was released here earlier and isn't the same.

What I would like to find out is where the 85” model is and its price, the 65-75” have the same amount of local dimming zones.

Maybe, just maybe, the 85” is a good deal with more local dimming and a VA panel

Rtings has the u6n as a best budget offering because of the mini led, local dimming combination.

Reviews look good for the TCL C755 and it has a VA screen so considering it as well. Great value under 20k, even better closer to 15k if the price drops further in the new year.

The OS seems better than the Hisense Vidaa but, as others have pointed out, you could always get a TV box to run these screens.

Same here
Leaning towards the TCL if I go for that 75” TV space

If 85”, then likely the Hisense but still considering the TCL ( but the tcl is way more expensive at 85”)

TCL C655 Pro (not the non pro)

85” is priced at R25k +- and has a 144hz VRR(the smaller models dont have this)
Plus 160 local dimming zones

The only thing that bothers me is the peak brightness at 600 nits, seems a bit on the lower end? Should still suffice for HDR content and let the screen have a vivid feel to it.

But for the price, local dimming, qled and 144hz, that’s not to bad?

Most important thing this thread has missed about when buying a TV during this time of the year, remember to put your TV box on the curb with the trash where everyone can see it right when you leave for holiday
