Looking for SUV..

Provide a link, I can't see OP getting anywhere close to his requirements on the budget when looking at the Tiguan.

Yup. I did a quick scan early last week on the Tiguan, and just found them all super expensive and in base model

I thought about Haval, but something in me says not to go for a new brand like that.

I recently got one. I'll say this, the fuel consumption is NOT what it should be (yet?). It's currently on 13l/100km, the salesman says it will come down, so I hope so. Other than that, I'm loving it.

But as the the brand. It's China's top selling SUV in 2018.

I usually go against the obvious choices. If I were in the market for an SUV at that price, I'd go with a Volvo XC40...

That Volvo is stunning, inside and outside. But its not within budget - have not seen one under R500k. But I have seen this car in person - such a stunning car - really miles above the rest from a refinement perspective. Have not driven it though.

Yip it seems you won't be able to tick your boxes at the budget for an Allspace

Ford Everest?

I didnt consider this. Had a quick look now, it doesnt look very refined, and i am not sure if its the pics, but the boot looks small.

Decent pricing though. I think i need to go see it in person.

Had mine for a year now (H6C Lux Auto). Love it. But yes fuel consumption is 12.8 average for the year. I've wondered about de-catting....

You need to look for the "LTD" variant which has the Driver assistant features.

I think that's as good as you're going to get tbh.

Claimed consumption figures are highly optimistic, performed under controlled laboratory conditions.

You're actually doing pretty well considering the claimed figure for your car is 9.8L/100km.

To put this into perspective, on my previous car the claimed figure was 7.8, and I averaged around 11-12. On my current car the claimed figure is 6, and I'm averaging around 10.

There's a new standard coming soon though for measuring claimed figures, which is meant to be more representative of real-world conditions...

Subaru forester? Even new, though the 2L engine is not exciting - but very similar to what you get in a CX5 or Tuscon if you opt for a 2L. Has good boot space, features, and apparently the eyesight safety features are amongst the best.

You can get with 2.0L turbo in the top spec model, 177kw!

The sound of a turbo charged boxer is awesome! Which is a nice added bonus!

Yeah it's awesome, if you can afford the fuel :p

A boxer is bad enough on fuel in sedan form, in SUV form it would be through the roof! But if this is not a concern then it's a great option...

Fuel is always a concern, so when guys suggest that a car is a guzzler i would probably take it off the list. Also the forester is an ugly car man. I cant see myself driving it.

My 2015 CX-5 2.2 Diesel i get 7.4L average on a 700-750L tank. I don't drive it too low though.

My choice would be between the the CX-5 and the Tuscon. I would also like the Tiguan, but the SUV is massively overpriced
