If you read the thread you would know it isn't my Pc, and it's not easy to find compatible ram. I've already finished with the computer and moved on.

Seems I wasn't specific enough, the client uses a CellC wireless piece of crap so internet access is going to be restricted.

There is only 128MB of SDRAM 133, basically if I put MSE on there just won't be any ram left for anything, I am going to have a look at Immunet Protect Free 3.0.5.7515 first, the size of the installer is encouraging , NOD will be plan B though I'm pretty sure it's too resource hungry for this Pc. What anti-virus programs did people use 13 years ago?



I can't put Linux on a clients Pc, they barely grasp Windows :erm:

About 13 years ago we used pc-cillin with win98. 700mhz processor , 128mb sd ram and 6gb hdd. had that pc untill about years ago when it died.miss it but couldnt be bothered to find out what was wrong.

Clamwin would work fine on that pc but it's not an 'active' av scanner, user has to invoke it when needed.

In the past I've found NOD32 to be among the lightest on resources, as well as one of the most effective.

Having said that, a lot of viruses infect the AV itself, meaning that you have to resort to an online scan anyway. There's just no substitute for simply being diligent and cautious. You wouldn't stick your dong (protected or not) into a street prossie on crack would you?
