Manual vs Automatic

No, I have stated my case, why I prefer manual to auto.

But each to his own, IF I was ever to go for an automatic it certainly would NOT be one of these smaller low powered ones.

No.. You have tried and failed to prove why manual is better than auto with a bunch of nonsense reasons...

100% am opinion piece...

How far did you have to dig to find that opinion piece? From what seems to be a Philippines site as well.

No, the one is from SA ----, the other just sums up my opinion better than I could.
So what does it matter where it comes from?
There are us, manual enthusiasts, around and there are obviously the rest of the herd.

Who is racing? The fancy oke in his blik met wiele is! I don't have to race. My goal is to travel within the speed limits at a constant moving average speed and get to my destination safely. I have nothing to prove.
And making assumptions again about what I drive! BMW drivers are known for having some or other superiority complex.
Literally not what you described.

What 'fancy modern BMW' can't hold its speed there? Any modern fancy auto can downshift faster than you can think about downshifting. Sorry, a strong opinion but no experience is the matter is classic braai talk.

Insecure bakkie bois playing games to make themselves feel better about their lot in life. Take it to the track. Poor guy prob just wanted to get home to his family.

They are both opinion pieces still...

And you actually don't seem to be a manual enthusiast to be honest. You seem to be a manual fanboi, and everything else is shyte, and you will use multiple bollocks arguments to try prove it.

I'm a manual lover, still, can I take you up the hill in the weak EcoSport so that you change your silly BMW story?

Why? It is a real observation.
Take it or leave it. I have stated and got some support for manuals transmissions over automatics, specifcally the lower end "'automatics".

I am done here.

Also going back to new cars ... there is a reason why these new cars also want to dice. The reason is simple , they just not exciting enough , and the only thing that is remotely engaging is for them to robot race.Older manual cars its all about the driver , the car and the road.No need to dice others for excitement.Look at cars like the S2000 , subaru etc. These are cars with real personality.Show me a modern car that have huge turbos , dump values , 9000rpm redlines ,screamer pipes , obnoxiuous cold air intakes ? This is what makes a fun car.

A good example of what makes a fun car is that youtube Shmee150.He has tons of new fancy high powered cars but his favourite is his "slow" 450hp manual Aston Martin Vantage GT8.

Also due to this obsession with performance ,strict regulations manfacturers are stuffing cars with tech , as a way to entice new car buyers.Without performance and computer gadgets these cars dont have anything to offer the real petrolhead. If you want a fun car why do you need to be fiddling around with touchscreens when you should be focused on driving ?

Again , compare a tesla to lambo murcielago.the tesla will beat it in a drag race , but which car would you rather own ?

Again there is a reason people with performance manuals keep there cars for +20 years.Do you know why ? Simple they are fun and never get boring.

Deep down the car manufacturers know that they finding it difficult to make fun cars , and are trying to come up with ways to keep it fun such as fake exhaust noises in the cabin.Again to summarize ...

You want performance and ease of use get a auto. You want fun get a manual.

anyone want to comment on what i wrote and prove me wrong ?

A weekend car makes sense with a manual. But I enjoy driving my auto every day, and if I want some excitement I would select sports plus and manual, and try time the gear changes when it tells me to change up.

Not sure if it's on purpose, but it kicks you in the back when you do change at the right time.

Anyway, it's 2019, and manual cars is more nostalgia than anything else. If you do track racing there are worse things than a manual, but I disagree that a manual is more exciting. Depends on the entire package, not the transmission.

It was a flawed observation that can easily be disproved by testing the theory in practice, there was something else at play. But run along.

Control - Paddles, perfect gear selection.
Fuel Efficiency - Dual Clutch and CVT more efficient than manual.
Engine Brake - Perfect with DCT every single time, provided for by others as well.
Simplicity - Can't be any simpler having LESS things to do.
Responce - Faster than any human.

Please do try again.

I say again, an automatic is not an automatic is not an automatic.

If we were only talking about torque converter gearboxes the above would be true, but we've moved so, so far beyond that since those were the standard.

Open your mind.

So you did not read the link I posted?
Never mind don't bother, I will summarise the link to show what the author meant by his 5 advantages comparing that with what you think the 5 meant.

It was on opinion pretty piece. Hardly objective in any way.

I agree robot to robot racing is stupid and not a measure of anything (but still fun).

However I’ve always believed that and it has very little to do with gearboxes. You manual lovers gives yourselves way too much credit when it comes to your influence on drag times.

The real test of a car and also where the fun is had comes over an entire lap time that involves a myriad of different corners and very little in the way of straights.

Gymkhana probably being the best test of them all.

again you are making assumptions which are wrong.

I service my own cars -------- have and always will.

Dude. With all due respect, it's you that has been making the biggest assumptions of anyone here.

Did you answer my question to you? As in have you ever driven a BMW with an 8-speed ZF gearbox?
No. But I know I will be able to work out how to drive one if I had to.
Have you ever driven a 20 ton livestock truck towing a trailer from BFN to PE loaded with two tiers of sheep for slaughter?

This is not a pissing contest it is a debate about the merits of small lower power automatic cars based on the opinion that manual transmissions are better than automatic transmissions.
And BTW, both sides of the debate are based on OPINION and personal preference.

Ok. Thanks for the honest answer.

Now - if people have driven both a manual, and a superior auto box, and declare that they consider the auto box to be the best - how can you debate, if you refuse to actually drive such an auto?
