Massive Hamburgers

Is is open every day or is it that market that's only open one or two days a week at the waterfront? Was the mushroom burger a patty & mushroom or was it a veg burger?

It is open every day until 5 I think. It is most definitely open every day :) The patty is 100% beef, they make it in front of you - and they grill it on open flames. The burger is either beef or chicken - a big fillet that they grill also in front of you - and then the mushroom sauce. We drive specially some lunch times and buy for everyone in the office - it's that good :)

Cool. I was kinda hoping it was a veg mushroom burger :p. Cafe Royale and Hudsons are nice but was hoping to try somewhere else for a change (for a veggie burger).

All that mince should have made two patties. Would have been the envy of the thread :).

Oh, thanks DJ and Nicci. Now I just have to make burgers tonight as well. That looks delicious.

I'm thinking maybe Camembert and cranberry. That should go down well.

Hmmm delicious!! Zewp, you must try this - a friend gave me this recipe, and omg it makes the patties taste delicious!!

Mix 500 g of lean beef mince with 2 t (10 ml) Ina Paarman Meat Spice and 4 T (60 ml) of Ina Paarman's Roast Onion Soup & Gravy Powder. Add ½ cup (125 ml) cold water and mix through. Shape into 8 patties. Leave to rest for 10 minutes to soften the onions. Oil the patties on both sides and cook on a very hot cast iron griddle pan or on the braai.

Decided to drop in at Starlite Diner to try the Yankee Doodle Burger again after previously attempting it 5 years ago. I have to admit, it doesn't live up to memory as I can swear it use to be absolutely monstrous!

Any ways, here are some pics for everyone wondering what it's all about

OT : as I was sitting there enjoying my burger, I watched a pair of birds (the feathered variety) walking on the pavement, with a little one running in front. To my surprise, the little one walked straight onto a water drain and fell in, with the parents looking at one another chirping away. Needless to say, there is no way getting it out of the drain as it's filled with water and impossible getting open............was a good burger though.

PS, it's a 500g patty, burger costs R82

Made the mistake twice to eat at Starlite Diner - never again.
There's nothing really special about them IMO.

Ed's diner, pta East has a very nice selection of big burgers. They specialise in them and consider their burgers to be gourmet burgers. A pounder costs just under R100.

As for big food, I finished the food part of the zappas challenge (sport pub on roussouw Street, pta) in 22 min and took my time with the beer cause I didn't feel the rush. 1kg rump, 1kg chips and ltr beer.

My mince didn't defrost in time, so I'm making this today. I'll try out this recipe and let you know how it went.

Soup? Gravy powder? Meat spice? Tbh I don't know wtf that is but I know what it isn't... a hamburger!

what about bread crumbs and stuff in patties ?

You don't need to put anything into patties, all a crock of schite.

All you need in your patties is 100% mince ;)

I only use mince and absolutely nothing else goes into the patties.
