Massive Hamburgers

Hmmm delicious!! Zewp, you must try this - a friend gave me this recipe, and omg it makes the patties taste delicious!!

Mix 500 g of lean beef mince with 2 t (10 ml) Ina Paarman Meat Spice and 4 T (60 ml) of Ina Paarman's Roast Onion Soup & Gravy Powder. Add ½ cup (125 ml) cold water and mix through. Shape into 8 patties. Leave to rest for 10 minutes to soften the onions. Oil the patties on both sides and cook on a very hot cast iron griddle pan or on the braai.

Does the patty hold together well? Most attempts I make at making a hamburger patty end with them falling apart.

Use regular beef mince if you can find it. If not then lean but under no circumstances extra lean mince.

You don't need to put anything into patties, all a crock of schite.

All you need in your patties is 100% mince ;)

I only use mince and absolutely nothing else goes into the patties.

I always throw in some spices to give it a bit of flavor. Usually a bit of cayenne, some garlic, some chilli flakes and then moderate amounts of salt and pepper. Otherwise it's just too bland. You can only go so far with sauces to put on top of it.

If you're worried you can just break one egg into it. It helps the meat to bind a bit better.

4:1 beef to pork ratio, some Worcestershire sauce, a generous amount of salt and pepper and a very hot braai all combine to make a burger that will make all other (store bought) burgers seem very lame. Friends hate me because they say they can't eat other burgers anymore :D.

Oh and you can make them as big as you want.

I make 20% beef / 80% Ostrich burger, nothing added, except minimal garlic pending on what I want to serve, and refrigeration. My favourite recipe being Teriyaki Pineapple and bacon.

Holy smokes, definitely going to try me some Sticky Finger BBQ burger this weekend!
