MTN Black Friday Discussions

If you have 2 MTN contracts in your name do you have to make 2 separate user login's to view your contract info on the MTN website?

You do get a dual sim. Two sims linked to one contract. My brothers dual sim is working for some reason. I just "borrowed" it now, he doesnt know his is working yet :D. I will test it now to see if it consumes the 500 mb recurring data or the promo data and I will come back with an answer in a few

Never knew that.:o

IMO MTN should have called it Dual Sims. Since it is two Sims.

Is that on one of these promo 50gb contracts?

does that pro rata amount sound correct? and should I really try and solve this Rica BS story?

Pro rata amount sounds right...I was activated on Wednesday and had a very similar amount...

They call the secondary sim a "dual sim" for some reason

But now for my preliminary update:

This was on the tablet which I had the sim in

I moved the sim over to my phone since the tablet is not 4G capable. I watched the Youtube rewind video on 1080p

The recurring data did not go down but the promo data went down by a small amount.

Dont take this as my final result but its looking good for now. I will keep downloading random files with my brothers sim and keep checking which data gets depleted

Tried registering contract 2 but it wouldn't accept it using the same email I used when registering contract one on the mycontract.mtn.co.za so tried a different email, that worked and now both contracts are showing under the same login, you just select on a drop down menu which contract you want to view.

Oh well at least I got what I wanted.
 
Is anyone using a new number and sim in an Apple device able to link iMessage//Facetime to their new number?

I cannot and trying to get hold of anyone at MTN to address the issue is proving near impossible!!
 
I just downloaded two 1 hour long youtube songs as mp3s just for the sake of testing. Both were around 90mb each

It doesnt seem like is using the recurring data at all. Only the promo data.
There are a lot of people waiting for this info and to me it does seem like its working.

You have no reason to trust a random stranger on the internet, but I've the pics shows it does work. You can use this or not. I just did it as a guinea pig. If you do get a dual sim and it doesnt work there is a 7 day cool down period where you can return it.

It terms of billing. I cant see the R10 on my bill yet since my sim isnt working. I would have to check with my brother if he has an MTN active account. Also, I was charged R135 for the sim and connection. If you had a sim delivered to you by courier, you can possibly take that and have them activate that as a dual sim for free (possibly)
 
Is the primary sim, or the 2nd sim using the data?

hmmm if a few generous guys can share with me, then i can cancel my ADSL. hmmm i wonder if multiple contacts can share to one person :/ :P
 
Some interesting info regarding the dual sim thing.

The product is actually called DUAL CALL and the guy that helped at the MTN store said on Cyber monday they were advised that DUAL CALL was hence forth disallowed for the R149 S package we all got with the free 50gb, those that managed to activate DUAL CALL between Friday and Monday would have got it but not subsequently, the system will take the application but submission will be blocked/fail.

I convinced him to let me try, I'll report back what happens.

By the way the R136 once off fee for DUAL CALL is for the contract sim itself , it's not an activation fee. Prepaid sim swops are 99c, contract sim swops are R136, apparently the sims are different in some way.

Anyway the one contract sim that was delivered I never used because I ported my prepaid MTN number to one of the contracts and that prepaid sim was assigned to the contract. I used that unused sim to apply for the DUAL CALL and didn't have to pay the R136 sim fee.
 
the problem with sharing with a stranger is that he can eat most of the data :)

yeah dual sim is 2 sims one contract

im going to get 4 sims (2 contracts) :D

cause the josh that helped me told me the exact same thing...that's why i took out 2 149 packages and 1 199 package.

To test which would work. If 149 worked i was going to cancel the 199.

but now i will go test both and my aunt asked for the other so will give it to her

That may be true but the guy that helped me seemed to imply any black Friday deal with 50gb promo data would be blocked from DUAL CALL.

I also got a very shady response from the call centre, when they heard I was on a 50gb promo contract she said "no dual call has been discontinued" and then I told her that I knew someone that had recently got it activated on their contract she changed her tune and said you can get it but only in store.

Clearly they would prefer DUAL CALL not be used on contracts with the 50gb promo data and call time, whether it's out right blocked is another thing.
