MTN confirms smartphone service data bundle pricing

Wow, a bunch of drooling idiots, playing with the only blackberry devices left in the world that they couldn't manage to sell to an unsuspecting user (/victim) of their service.
I find it more interesting that My Broadband can post such articles without asking the obvious questions that everyone has been asking here. This is a no-news story if you take it at what has been published so far, and seems like an advert, which would be fine if it was marked as such.

I totally agree with you, myBB had to have seen the comments and the previous thread in these bundles. How could they not ask what the FUP is? Really disappointed that we don't have some clarifications, at the moment that article looks like an advertisement.

This is soooo funny. BIG fail! At Vodacom you get 100Mb for R49 and 250Mb for R99. Now why will anyone pay R49 for 75Mb "fair use". Whoever thought of this plan should be fired.

Whahahahahahaha!! Funny.

Because they are locked into a 24 month contract like me :(

Advertisement for tyranny...

Guys, I've been saying this all along.

-points at sig-

MyBB has become a place to sell advertising. That's it. Their best articles all come from other sources like The Mail and Guardian and Moneyweb.

is it even legal under the CPA to advertise something without stipulating what the charges will be? Nowhere can I find info about what the "overcharge" fee will be.

Guys, I've been saying this all along.

More and more, I find myself scanning the headline, bypassing the article and coming straight to the forum. I'm totally disappointed at mybb's lack of tenacity in getting a story. If this continues you might as well hire a cheap receptionist to receive all your content from companies and do the pasting for you. Honestly, have some respect for your members and put at least some thought into what you're publishing.

It's a case of waiting for them to advertise the service.

I am pissed at reading this article, i really am! 75MB fair usage then you get overcharged! Seriously MTN what were u thinking?!! Dont go calling your plan similar to BIS, because it is FAR from BIS!! Just when I had hope MTN would release something cool, they released something so useless! Basically this "Smartphone Plan" is a 75MB data bundle, How Cute.

Im not even going to hope on Vodacom or Cell C, they will probably release something useless too!!!

This is giving me an indication 1GB of 4G LTE data will be R300, A massive saving according to these networks.

Im still going to get a Blackberry, nothing is holding me back now!!!

I don't want to deal with MTN anymore. I have 4 MTN contracts and this is the last straw. What do they take us for? Add this to the most expensive network and poor network coverage. I am not impressed.

Notice how there is no mention of "flat rated" suddenly...

Before you go jumping on the berry wagon, go take a look at the berry section and see the thousands of complaints regarding QoS, reliability and stability.
Users have reported BBM delays ranging from 5min to 36 hours, page load times in the minutes. One user actually tested a 24k page took 7min to load. BIS is far from what it used to be, i speak from experience with all this, 3G on BIS is slower than EDGE on anything else. I took speed test using BIS and non-BIS on the same handset and it was almost insulting to see the difference, getting true 3.6ish mb speeds off BIS and barely getting GPRS on BIS.

The reason MTN and voda are coming up with "better" (i use that in the loosest possible sense) deals are to actually ive users a legitimate alternative to BIS, MTN however took as an early april fools joke and made a complete arse of themselves

It's just a bloody data bundle for crying out loud. Why did the author of the article not point out that, unlike the claim by Mr Tobo-something-or-other, this is NOTHING LIKE BIS?

We should take this to helopeter. A deal like this is actually a blatant insult to the entry level consumer.

It is actually false advertising. Comparison to BIS is coming from outer space....This offer is nothing than exploitation of dumb smartphone users..

You guys said it best. Karel Pienaar should let his head hang in shame.

Again, I completely agree. I'm really surprised and disappointed that the author of the article did not point out how laughable and misleading this product is. I think we all expect a little more from myBB.

3GB for R399 valid 12 Months. Cell C FTW!! :D

MTN here you GO! :p

MyBB has basically republished the previous article on the topic while making no effort to answer any of the queries forumites have posted. I still don't get how this is any different to the usual R49 for 75mb data bundle. This is either the lamest rebranding of a product ever, or the press release is ambiguous. It's sad, but as others have mentioned, this really does just seem like advertising.
