MTN confirms smartphone service data bundle pricing

This is an insult to MTN customers IMO. It's looking more worth while moving providers, MTN has the most expensive data bundles and the worst quality data network.
 
I was looking forward to this but I started having my doubts about this service being anywhere near a BIS type service after the previous article from MTN and this just confirms it.
 
R35 / 75 MB = R466 per GB. Cell C 1.2GB data bundle = R250 (Which I think is still a ripoff, but anyway).
 
Pointless product....

Guarantee you that they'll limit the "email" to specified services, and not things like GMail... IM won't include things like Skype...

MTN, get your head OUT of your rectal cavity and release a proper product....

We're ok with a 100meg "fair usage" limit.. but after that, throttle the speed rather than charging for the "overage"

There have been questions as to what happens after a user reaches the 75MB monthly usage limit on these data bundles, and MTN explains that, “Once the customer has reached the fair use limit, an overcharge will apply.

It is actually false advertising. Comparison to BIS is coming from outer space. :-( No unlimited Email, no push Email, where is this coming from? It looks like a copy-pasted press release from MTN.

What it really is: restricted data bundle with OOB charges. Flat rated? Yes, normal bundle is flat rated.

This offer is nothing than exploitation of dumb smartphone users (as already pointed out). I am not going to find a reason. It works, because it always worked; it works the same way like the long running *141# ads on TV. It creates confusion and distraction to keep users away from really good deals.

MTN is on a mission again, they are trying to demonstrate what NOT to do when launching new products.

This way when Vodacom, Cell C and maybe Virgin launch something similar they know what not to do, instead of making a mistake and learning from it they let MTN do it for them.
Much cheaper to learn from your competitions mistakes.
 
How much is the porting charge these days? Goodbye mtn

75mb - That's like 1 or 2 youtube vids? Android (and iphone) have such nice youtube apps, and in SA they're only usable at home on wifi when you're near your pc anyway.. When will video become part of our mobile life? Especially for uploading.. there are so many apps that can take video and pics, and upload immediately, to dropbox, or flickr or whatever, and it's all instantly ready and sync'd for you at home, or anywhere in the world..

With that in mind - 75mb is a joke.

Edit: And new phones record in 1080p.. 75mb will let you upload what, 30 seconds a month?

I guess we look like morons to these monkeys. I am not sure how we can be polite about this.

And what is the meaning of fair use if it is capped? A FUP is for uncapped accounts where you should take other's inconvenience into account.

Then again they said for entry-level phones. Androids and iPhones aren't entry level anyway. Well except some few Android models.

Ok Now @MTN: Android smartphones consume around 15MB per day UPWARDS. that's just a person browsing a few sites, updating 1 or 2 apps and having his/her email connected the whole day. Do the maths. Even your BlackBerry subscribers could have given you an average monthly use estimate. If you have any kind of research insight, you would know that the average webpage size nowadays is pushing 1MB. So by your logic, I have 2.5 pages a day.
 
So I have to buy a bundle for every thing I do with my phone, a bundle for ovi,a bundle for email,a bundle for operamini,this is getting interesting,what happens if I use a service I don't have a bundle for?R2 per mb?

Wow, a bunch of drooling idiots, playing with the only blackberry devices left in the world that they couldn't manage to sell to an unsuspecting user (/victim) of their service.
I find it more interesting that My Broadband can post such articles without asking the obvious questions that everyone has been asking here. This is a no-news story if you take it at what has been published so far, and seems like an advert, which would be fine if it was marked as such.
