MTN slashes Out-of-Bundle data prices

Cheaper but still expensive.

Great to see price drops, but we need it to come down more!

Ayoba MTN...Looks like its now cheaper to go OOB on MTN,never mind the billing system not loading yur bundles,you would actually be paying less...goodbye top up,Anytime here I come back!
 
How can they say uncapped and then restrict it to 150MB? is it a typo was it meant to be 150GB that would be fair usage.

No cause your limit isn't 150mb only the speed gets capped after 150mb to 128k. So its still unlimited. Cause you would be able to exceed 150mb. It would just take a while since your speed will be 128k
 
The throttling is interesting. I would buy one of the larger bundles if it was cheaper but rate limited. R150 for 2 gigs but limited to 512 kb/s or something.
 
So where and when can I subscribe for the '1 day unlimited plan', 24 hours? At R50, I'm really in for the kill. So that makes R50 x 30 = R1500 p/m of uncapped at rather low speeds.

That R50 uncapped is a good deal:

128 / 10 = 12.8

12.8 x 60 x 60 x 24 / 1000 = 1105 mb.

That's atleast a gig for R50

VC might do the same, after all MTN & VC are pricefixing partners. :D

Same difference. But sir, don't you divide by 8? 128 / 8 = 16

16 x 60 x 60 x 24 / 1000 = 1383 mb.
1GB and 300 mb for R50.

Telkom is smiling all the way, cos lots of 3G/HSDPA users will go for ADSL now and line rental is still Telkom's.

Yes, but that's under perfect circumstances which is not likely to happen.

I think the point is:

uncapped for 24 hours means R50 for about 1 gig, and very very few mobile users are acually going to do that.......

No one can accuse MTN for beeing stupid on this one...

VC will come and make it the same price for 48 hours uncapped and very few will even use a gig...

They also are NOT stupid......

It is not the one asking the price thats the fool...... its the one paying the price!!! Oh sorry I forgot the payer have no choice????

How can I pay R50 and still get 500MB(+) (conventional R189) a day, and still be a fool? I don't mind slow speeds that much. That's savings of R139 made in accordance with the 500MB current MTN deal.

So I'm going to ask a very silly question: Does this mean that after you have reached 150 meg you will only be downgraded to 128 Kbps speed but will still be able to use unlimited (or rather limited at that speed) bandwidth? Don't roll around laughing too much at this question :)
 
Full speed till 150megs then after that downgraded to 128kbps but still unlimited for remaining 24 hours.

Lets say you own a Nokia E71 like me. Download speeds are up to 3.6mbps which is +-350KB/s. So you browse and download at this speed. The moment you hit 150MB your speed gets throttled to 128kbps, as elLoL indicated that's about 12.8KB/s (not too bad for a mobile phone). So now if you activate this package at 06:00, 4 April, and hit the 150MB mark at 12:00, your speeds decrease as from 12:01 (from 3.6mbps) to 128kbps till/to 06:00, 5 April.

Is it just me or is the OOB rate for 100mb cheaper than the normal rate? R80 for 100mb is R0.80, and OOB its R0.65??
