MTN Uncapped Lite for R299

Billing issues

Hi everyone

After watching this thread from almost 3 months now I still do not see a clear answer as to whether you are billed or not after the initial 3gb.

So doing some deep digging I found a note on MTN's site that says you WILL be billed after the initial 3gb. Here is the link: http://www.mtn.co.za/FindaPlan/Pages/InternetPackages.aspx?index=3

I really need the final answer to this. Billed or not billed after 3gb?

Data sessions deplete inclusive data in 1KB steps. Standard and out of bundle data sessions are charged at our published rates in 1KB steps with a R0.02, VAT exclusive minimum charge for access and rounded up to the next cent at the end of each data session, excluding the minimum charge.

wow, i either need a rocket science degree to understand this geek english from mtn, or what they basicaly mean is "go ahead, finish your 3gigs, but know that we will be charging you per kilobyte afterward... there goes the "uncapped" statement again, so much small print its shocking.....

Getting my mtn 3g today, hope its as good or better than some of you described it as of Feb.

I know it will be more reliable than my ADSL was, thats been dead for over a month and lines still not fixed :[

Hi everyone

I wanted to know about the MTN Uncapped Lite deal. I am currently staying in Worcester for a few months and I need internet ^_^ I am a cellc user, but their signal here is crappy to say the least (only EDGE) and I saw that MTN is lifting their throttling on the "uncapped" deals from Feb.
Now I wanted to ask: Is the MTN Uncapped Lite offer good value? I primarily use the internet to browse, update/buy on Steam and the occasional video. Or should I rather go for the 2GB offer from MTN @ R149/m

Thanks for any replies, and I'm interested to see what people experience from Feb onwards on the lifted throttling.

Until recently it's been pretty good, but seems it's changed/changing.

Did a test yesterday and at around midnight the speed went from 35kb/s to 250kb/s.
Seems they opening it up now only after midnight.

Will keep a eye on it.

There's something odd happening - I tested MTN on a prepaid sim this weekend, hoping that it would be workable, but also averaged out at 35 to 40kb/s. I then re-tested a Vodacom sim, same setup, same dowload, gives me 190kb/s. The towers are sited next to each other.

Guys, if you are considering getting an MTN uncapped rather hold on a few days or a month to see how the rest of us are being treated as of February... so far I'm getting avg dl speeds of about 4kbps (vomit) and everyone else on the lite package seems to be getting the same speed....

Maybe it's teething problems ont heir throtling or their planned speeds, who knows.

Since today my connection has worsened so bad that I even get timeouts when surfing. Pathetic ! Latency is horrible. Websites (like BBC) takes ages to load and I don't get more than 6k p/sec. Submitting anything on a website is just as bad. It's worse than a dial-up connection. How on earth could the service get so bad, overnight ?!

Urgh. Was considering this until they came up with the crap cap and throttling. I'll sign up when they throttle you to 1Mbps thanks. Even 256Kbps is childs play.

time to jump ship.capped speeds here to stay.for the same price go to mweb and telkom.wasting time with mtn.same story with me.

Yeah, for the higher end package. You pay about R700 or so inclusive anyways for 1Mbps on Telkom. It's no competition.

There seem to be a lot of similar complaints here.

Seems to be faster as of late yesterday afternoon, did the rest of you experience that too?

When I phoned them on the first they said I used up my prorata 3gb and would only be renewed when im billed on the 14'th

I did close on 6gb (http download and LOL patches, latency 310ms though :[[ ) since yesterday afternoon, so I guess im not in my 3gb cap...

Just got uncapped lite with the router (Huawei b683). I can connect laptop and ps3 to the router but I don't have any internet access. How do I get internet access. I have tried putting the sim into my laptop with built in modem, it connects to the internet but I can't open any webpages. Is there any trick to connecting to the net or do I have to start calling the "help"desk at mtn.

Simply insert the SIM into the router, switch the router on and connect to the router and enter the wireless security password. That is it.
