MTN Uncapped Lite for R299

Just got uncapped lite with the router (Huawei b683). I can connect laptop and ps3 to the router but I don't have any internet access. How do I get internet access. I have tried putting the sim into my laptop with built in modem, it connects to the internet but I can't open any webpages. Is there any trick to connecting to the net or do I have to start calling the "help"desk at mtn.
These are two different problems and must be handled differently. When SIM is inserted to the laptop, it can be network problem, or no bundle/airtime or SIM provisioning. It has to be resolved first. Remove pin protection and try again.
Regarding router, there are other threads helping with configuration.

Recently signed up for this for R 289 / m through MTN.

Up until now, no sign of throttle and capping. Very happy with download speeds (up to 500KBs), although latency is pretty poor.

I have discussed with MTN at length, they assure me a fixed cost of R 289 / m.

Anyone else been throttled this month?

Welcome.
Did you ask them why you aren't being throttled?

Thanks for the welcome.

Yep, I asked. Twice. Both of the division where I got it from and the call centre. They seemed pretty clueless, but ensured me that I was on this deal. I asked why I wasn't being throttled yet and they said that maybe my usage wasn't yet reflected on their system. This was 5 days ago. And I am DEFINITELY over the 3gb. I won't lie, I'm pretty terrified that they've screwed up and got me on the wrong deal and are gonna charge me heavily at the end of the month, but there's nothing I can do about it. Not gonna stop using my internet because they can't get it right.

What do you think Khanya?

Anyone else seen the throttling this month?

EDIT: Throttling kicked in yesterday, about 100GB too late, but hey.

Even if this is not America. I would sue them flat out should they charge me extra.

Don't worry, they won't overcharge you. In the mean time, I would go crazy on that uncapped data.

Did anyone of you got a message Cuase i always had Vodacom Egde speed 20-25 KB's but when we got MTN prepaid it downloaded 120-150 KB's to test so we Got the MTN uncapped on the 13th of this month used my my 3gb few hours ago. It had downloaded full speed until i got an sms that said your 3gb soft cap is finished you will now be throttled to 256kbps but i only manage to get 0.12 which isnt really fast and only like 18KB's on downloads how do you guys get so much speed after 6 Gb of downloads ???

MTN Uncapped Lite:
I simply don't understand how the trottling currently works. No consistancy in speedtests. I also don't experience anywhere near the advertised 256kbps when policy kicks in.

Speedtest results: (supposed to be +- 256kbps)
Wednesday 3Mbps
Thursday 0.06Mbps
Friday 1.1Mbps
Rest of the weekend 0.09Mbps

Is this shaping or network issues? There is no consistancy...
Surely if my connection is shaped according to fair use policy it should return +- 0.25Mbps during speedtests?
I am confused.

Most people won't mind the 3Mbps spikes but the 0.06Mbps and 0.09Mbps is really unacceptable ??

Here in E.L latency not that great although 500KB/s down speed. Sitting at like 120ms local and 320ms int.

This is what i get know was throttled for like 2 days werent to slow but now im getting full speed for the past 3 days

Hi Guys,

I'm not big on forums, so I hope I'm doing this right :)

So I went ahead and got the MTN Uncapped Lite, even though I had read almost this whole thread. Whats confusing me though is the fact that I'm getting differant speedtest.net results from my mobile phone when it's on WiFi and when it's on its own signal.

I tested it yesterday morning and this is the results I got:

WiFi: Down: 2.43 - Up: 1.01 - Ping: 605ms
Phone: Down: 0.90 - Up: 1.02 - Ping: 85ms

These results were tested straight after each other, so much so that both results say 7:08am, my phone and router were about a meter from each other and both test were to the same server (MWEB Connect Cape Town).

I know the download speed is faster on the WiFi, but I'm a gamer and I need better latency :)

I am keen to take this package as well, can someone confirm that there are no additional charges after the first 3GB? I recall that when this package was first introduced MTN was going to charge OOB rates?
