MTN Uncapped Lite for R299

This probably has nothing to do with the Uncapped lite package.

So any way of petitioning MTN to up the throttled speed?
Compared to the speeds I get from 8ta this is killing me, if we could maybe get 1Mbps?
Wow if we could get 1Mbps I'd be very happy to say the least.. If there is any way to start such a petition I'd sign.

I wouldn't try that. Maybe they might decide to can the uncapped lite if too many people are whiney. I don't want this to happen.

Update on the situation. Gareth (Voldemort on the forums here) from MTN came out to my place and installed a flat panel antennae. The issue now is resolved. I want to thank Gareth for his professional and speedy service.

Also my initial post might seem a bit harsh but I really reached the end of the road with the normal call centre staff. My opinion on MTN changed as well and I want to apologise if what I said came of as an insult. They actually do care about their clients.

So thanks to Gareth and to MTN for the willingness to resolve this.

Their earnings were up 40+% in 2011: read here and you think they are doing us a favor?

Did you work directly through him or Coverage Help Desk, because I've been trying to get hold of someone to install an antenna at my place and help desk was useless.
 
Hi Guys,

I got mine contract yesterday, the sale agent made sure the sim was active before I left the store(we didn't test the internet though) when I got home, I eagerly plugged this sim into my ipad and changed the apn settings to internet and nothing... just times out whenever I try visit any site, so I plugged to sim into my phone to see if its working at all, and I can make and receive calls but still no internet. I contacted MTN and they confirmed the sim is active and they sent the apn setting again still no luck. then contacted tech support and they couldn't find anything wrong and suggested I try use my 3g modem, which I did it connects but no internet(there is a very little up and down stream traffic though). so then I phone tech support back and the engineer asks me to wait until today and test again. I have done so and still nothing. MTN has now escalated the call to see what the issue is. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issue and how long did it take to sort it out?

Suddenly my speed dropped from 40kbps to 10, ad lo and behold 3 second latency trying to play diablo 3!!

Mine has been that slow since the end of February, I never even notice my 3GB being reset anymore :[[[
 
I'm still happy with this...except for a couple of days where it did get really slow, my throttled speed is fine...and I only get 2 bars on my signal (23%)

What is the average download speed for the MTN Lite uncapped (the one that is R299 per month) after you get throttled?

Depends on what you do with it, torrents are throttled to death, don't even consider it for that
 
My advice is log a support ticket with 1555 or 808. Logged mine on thursday I'll let you know if there has been any response next week.
 
To put 128kbps into download speed, it'll be roughly (128/8) 16 kB per second. . . Sadly, not impressive at all!

First it was more than 256kbps download speed, around 360kbps IIRC.

Then they seem to have changed the throttling around March/April, and it was about 256kpbs down.

Then they seem to have changed the throttling again a few days ago, and now it's at a max 128kpbs down (and, I would guess, another max 128kbps up). I get 52MB/hour, which is an average 115.1 kb/s or 14.4 kB/s. To top things off, the download rate is very bursty.

I am hoping it's a temporary glitch...

How do we get MTN to comment here? I don't game or youtube, just web and email and I'm currently running at 30kps (I kid you not) - 0.003Mbps on the MYBroadband Speed Test. I could not have reached my cap, and even if I had, there is no way I should be throttled down that slow.
