So, my fiancé was mugged at gunpoint on the path outside our apartment at approximately 17:20 today - our balcony overlooks the path. It happened right in front of our home.

The guy basically swore at him, called him a "po3s" told him - in Afrikaans - that he'd shoot him in his back, in his foot, anything. Waved the gun around at him, then put it back in his pocket. He also lifted his shirt and showed where he'd been shot, along with a long vertical scar on his stomach.

Long story short, he took my babe's cellphone, yet had the audacity to give him back his SIM card.

Mugging occurred at the path behind Willowbridge mall, Bellville, Cape Town.

Mugger's features are as follows:

Coloured male
1.8m in height
Black jeans
Leather jacket
Red shirt underneath
Blue/green eyes
Gunshot wound & vertical scar on stomach
Approximately late 20's
Gun was a black revolver
He had holes in both his ears, but no piercings
Shaved head
Skinny physique
Claimed to be in a gang and showed a tattoo with the numbers 26 or 27

Any information on this sonofacowcrap would be appreciated. Also any information about a gang by that ... number.

What really peeves on my batteries is that people were walking past while all this was happening and just scurrying away as quickly as possible - not doing a thing. One guy walked past and my fiancé even mouthed, "Help me" at him and he did nothing - just walked to his car, climbed in and drove off.

Is that how it is these days? People see crime and just go on about their business? Too afraid to help someone in case they get hurt in the process? Cowards.

MMmmm, it seems more of us have been a victim of crime in the last few weeks than a long time before (maybe ever?)

Hope they catch the bastard.

Sorry to hear about that.

Good idea that more and more people are posting their experiences on here as well.

Hope they catch the bastard.

That is absolutely shocking.

If you're not willing to help other people when they're in a situation, then you lose the right to complain about crime. Not saying the other guy should have attempted to jump the guy or anything. But turning a blind eye was certainly the most selfish thing he could do. Could have at least attempted to call the cops or something :(

Sorry to hear Lycan ........ at least it was just a cellphone. Hopefully the <insert choice expletive here> gets his karma very soon ;)

Sorry to hear that Lycan. I know how it feels like, but I'm also sorry to say that the likelihood is that nothing is going to be done about it... such is the justice system.

Eish... the people of today. Not talking about the mugger. The people who walk past not doing anything. The last time someone came into our property I chased the idiot away with a bat...

Unfortunately the guy matches the description of a lot of guys in the area, so technically speaking the chances of catching him (unless he's known in the area) are pretty slim.

Just glad you'r fianc'e is safe (and still has your number :p)

Sorry to hear that. I was mugged at knifepoint in Pta last year.

If that guy had a 26 or 27 tat, he has been to jail before. Probably got released for good behaviour.

As sucky as it is, the guy who didn't help was probably more scared than your fiance.

He didn't help because he didn't want to get hurt - it's the way it is, self preservation :(

I've helped people who were being mugged and only after when my GF at the time was shouting at me did I realise how stupid it was, but I think I'd do it again if happened - just the type of person I am.

Can he describe the tattoo in more detail? Location, More importantly, the correct number.

Other half says it was definitely a 26, on his right hand (a bit more sketchy on which hand) but on his wrist, the side closest to his pinky finger.

But turning a blind eye was certainly the most selfish thing he could do. Could have at least attempted to call the cops or something :(

I agree, wholeheartedly.

Yes, obviously he was scared. I like to think that if I saw someone being mugged, raped, whatever, I'd do everything I can to protect them because that victim could be me, or someone I love one day. I'd be scared to, but that doesn't mean I'd do anything less than someone who wasn't. If you just ignore it and let it go unnoticed, what type of person does that make you? I think it's disgusting.

You, gdiza, and people like you have my utmost respect.

To everyone else, thank you for your kind words and optimism - it means a lot.

I know a mugging isn't exactly, "Omg!" news these days, but there's always that possibility of, "What if" and I'm so grateful it didn't come to that and that we have the luxury of thinking, "What if."

Thank you... again.

He should buy, carry, and practice with a gun. Fight fire with fire.

How about baming the bloody mugger?? I don't blame anyone for not helping your boyfriend, SA is a violent country, people have kids and families. I sure as hell would not have put my life in danger to save somebody i don't even know. Call me a coward, but I prefer living life as apposed to being a buried hero.

Cape Town, and I suppose the whole country is totally out of control with regards to muggings. I've had my bad experiences and now I never, ever walk anywhere unless it's really safe.

But living the life he does he'll get his just desserts in the end... It's guarenteed with his type.

The 25, 26, 27 gangs are jailhouse gangs, primarily of the Polsmoore prison. I worked under them while a student, ruthless people.

So, your mugger was in jail, if he is 27 gang, he killed someone in prison and by the scars he is a "war" veteran. Count your blessings!

They are not so big on the outside, there are other gangs working the flats, but they are notorious and ruthless.
