Okay, had it up to here with SAOL.com, so thinking of switching to MWebs 4mb uncapped. Haven't been on here in like a year, so what's the skinny? How much will I be able to download before their fair use policy is gonna throttle me and what's the throttling like on torrents?

Thanks for the update in advance.

There is no fair use then throttle. You are permanently shaped, just moreso during the hours of 8am to 11:30pm... The rest of the time it is usually full speed. General web browsing and youtube etc is not really shaped, although some have said they have had to wait for videos to buffer.

I don't really download torrents, but when I was on 4mbps, I averaged 200-350gb/ month.

Hope that helps

Check if you can get Mweb to give you a test account first, try the Mweb feedback thread

Also what I've seen is that when you download using local torrents (Ninja etc) you get about 50% of the speed during the day as well...

depends on what you want...if you go on mweb rather use their news servers...10 times better than torrents....
and it local....and is also not as shaped.

Check the forums - Mweb have been blocking p2p and usenet...

like he said they dont shape their news server ,from my experience they dont cache large files. This sucks coz all the 1080p stuff is huge.Im not really complaining as i get my fix of anything at 480p at 400KB/s.if its cached that is.

uhm, I just downloaded using usenet and p2p last night. So no, they are not blocking it.

People should stop complaining about not being able to pirate fast enough. srsly.

+1

Mweb have never BLOCKED anything to my knowledge. They have said that during cable breaks etc that p2p and the likes would be severly limited, but they haven't blocked it completely never to see the light of your LED again...

If you aren't able to get something, then it could be any number of reasons... It could even be an eye dee ten tee user problem...

I don't know where people get their info from sometimes...

Mweb only blocks certain incoming ports for your own safety, which you can always disable in your client portal on their website.

Certain sites/content are shaped heavily during the day (and even late afternoon sometimes), but you should still be able to download quite a lot of stuff without ever getting a warning.
Please note that if you're going to use VPN/SSL tunnels on random ports to bypass shaping, then Mweb has a reason to terminate your account.

Other than that you really don't have to worry ;)

I only have scheduled downloads between 1am and 8am and frankly it's full speed ahead at these times. I prefer to schedule my downloads when it won't disrupt the rest of the household.
