Hi I have been having a problem with the mweb news server only getting speeds of 2-4kbs from the normal 30-40kbs This is even happening at night.

This problem started on monday and ive spoken to other mweb users and they also experiencing slower speeds. Was wandering if the mweb guy could plz assist in this matter.

Thx

I commented in the Mweb thread about this happening since this morning (my end) ...... no reply as yet. I know the CT guys were bitching about it being busted for them, seems they either tried fixing the CT problem and broke the whole country's news server access, or just throttled the crap out of everyone. I got an email about revised T&C's, maybe this is one of the revised things (which if it is, I'm moving to someone else).

I heard the Guys in CT were having problems aswell but im in PE so cant understand why its so slow. Hoping the Mweb Guy can give us a response.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
We are looking into the query and we will provide you with an update as soon as we can.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Nothing will be done. All they can say is looking into and and shift the blame on us. Telling me I need a seperate pc to do news server downloads is such bullcrap. I think they are busy decommissioning the news server. they might not have a news server in the future anymore. MWEB if this is some kind of April fools joke then you guys must give us something in return. maybe 1 day of fully unshaped internet.

Hi Nelis

I can assure you we are not in the process of decommissioning anything.

I know that there have been several complaints over the last few days about the download speeds on our news servers. I am gathering the necessary data on this to determine if there is an issue that extends beyond the normal shaping of nntp services and if I establish that there is a genuine issue then I will ensure that it is given the appropriate level of urgency.

If you are not able to connect to the server at all then this is a separate issue:

Please ensure that you are not using any non standard DNS settings and check all of your router and firewall settings. If you are 100% happy that everything is correctly configured please could you PM me the following information:

A copy of the results of an ipconfig / all from your PC
A copy of the IP configuration settings from your ADSL router
A ping and tracert test to news.mweb.co.za
a clear indication of the error you are receiving in your news client software when connecting to news.mweb.co.za (no other addresses please) and an indication of the exact circumstances under which you receive this error, is it at certain times of the day? only for certain downloads? etc.

Thanks
Will

Hi Will

Thanks for the response. I can connect, its just very slow. I hope you guys are able to determine the root of the problem and get the service back to its normal speeds.

Yeah I can also confirm this, my speeds topping out at 12-14kb/s on a 384k normal uncapped line :(

me to I can connect and it's going at a rate of 0-10KB/s

same experience here. was a getting 0-5 KB/s during the day also in Durban

Is a reason you guys are not using international news servers?

You can get uncapped international news for about 70 bucks a month, 30-40 rand could go very far as well buying gb's.

As of this morning i see my speeds are back to normal thanks for fixing the problem.:):D:)

When i use Mweb's News Server it peaks at 200KB/s for about 10 seconds the drops to ZERO for about 2 minutes and the cycle starts all over again..... i gave up on Mweb News Servers.

Seems i spoke too soon. This morning it was going along at 40kbs(384kb line) but its dropped again but now to 15-17kbs.

Just joined mweb yesterday and going to cancell it again. Rather getting a IS uncapped. At least the news server speeds are maxed on cached.
Only getting 5kbps. WTF mweb??

news server is broken atm, rather resot to payed news server or http downloads.

or torrents :)

Hi all

Our network engineers will be implementing a change tonight related to the MWEB news server. We trust that the change will have the desired affect and you should see an improvement by tomorrow.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy
