Mweb News server throttling?

I'm not to sure about the details around this at the moment.

Lovely. :(

My first moan in like, 6 months?? Hopefully this fix actually fixes it.

Any more info on the change? Will be get 100% line speeds on cached content? :)

All I can tell you at this point is that a configuration change is being made which should improve on the current situation, however it does not change the fact that nntp traffic is classified as p2p and will always be subject to shaping. Let's see how things look tomorrow and discuss it further from there.

I have never been shaped on news server traffic, partly the reason i moved from afrihost to mweb when afrihost started shaping badly. Hope this isnt the case with mweb. I have a feeling it is shaping though as my speeds went from 5kb to 20kb over the weekend back to 5kb this morning. sad times.

holding thumbs for this configuration change. Hope it give us back what used to be a great product.

I would think it's in MWEB's best interest to encourage use of their own news server rather than international ones, but the costs of hosting a server might just outweight that.

The key is having adequate popular cached content.

International news servers mean they'll need enough bandwidth for say 100+ popular downloads, while a local download could take the stress off their international lines at least.

For what it's worth - my current downloads are maxing out my 384k at this very moment again.

anyone having slows speeds with mweb news servers?? been swopping btw 196.28.78.229 Ip then swopped to news.mweb.co.za .
its downloading again but not at the speeds that I was previously getting???
