traffic is definitely being re-routed and response times are a bit sporadic. I think more corporates are prolly working today too than anticipated to MWEB prolly trying to do some quick re-routes.

I checked the Seacom site earlier and saw the message below. This was posted on 23 April but there has been no status updated since. Could be like someone said earlier, they still busy with it?

Repair work on Mediterranean segment of SEA-ME-WE 4 cable may cause brief SEACOM network disturbance - 23 Apr 2010

Just got this mail

"Hey Friends,

The Seacom international cable is still down for maintenance. This is affecting most of our users except for our Premium Vodacom Business and Premium IS users.

We are hoping Seacom will be back up today.

On behalf of Seacom, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused. "

Seems Seacom will be down until tomorrow ...

From http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?228116-MWEB-SEACOM-Update

We’ve been notified by Seacom that due to adverse weather conditions the repairs to the undersea cable are going to take longer than originally expected. The work will only be completed some time tomorrow (27th of April). Our alternative international bandwidth is quite congested so we are shaping heavily on things like peer-to-peer. Thank you for your continued patience.

Regards
MWEB Ops

@ Sabrewolfy ...oops...sorry didn't see your post. Everybody is going to take strain now - all ISPs - cos now its a case of who screams the loudest and pays the most for BW.....i guess we can give downloading anything a miss for today.... :(

I'm hoping that they say it will only be back tomorrow so that when it's actually back today it looks like they are ahead of schedule :)

on another note ..as per an earlier post...where can I get more info on Seacom? Their site is not very extensive on how seacom is made up

Now all you bloody guys were singing the praises of MWeb and I was questioning whether they were really that great and whether Afrihost might be a better option. Now I take the plunge and sign up for MWeb and all those predictions I made about them following the same route as all the other uncapped offerings seems to be happening. Of course I was repeatedly shot down when I insinuated this and was asked which other ISP I work for!!

Thanks guys!
It's a problem with the Seacom cable. Any other ISP making use of Seacom would be experiencing exactly the same problems. Just relax man, surely a few hours of intermittent international connectivity isn't going to kill you.

Can untangled run in "stealth/silent" mode? The client runs a mixed OS environment and the users have admin rights to their boxes. I don't want them to have access to view the app running cos then they want to uninstall it. There is no server and currently the router(Cisco) acts as the gateway/firewall. I used a very basic config on it only allowing the most common ports to be opened.

I am sure the MWEB rep initially thought about responding, but then after all your comments realised that schools are closed and the IS kids cant browse facebook, go figure.

I sent an email last week Thursday to Mweb's sales address and still haven't got a reply. Is their service normally like this? I want to have an account starting May.

Also are we going to get some reasonable capped accounts? It's not right that they cost more than uncapped. This issue isn't specific to Mweb of course.

Please keep the discussion on-topic and avoid personal attacks!

Future personal attacks (insults and the like) will result in an infraction and ISP forum ban.

I would suggest giving the sales team a call. I did a telephonic signup. They have been inundated with new leads and sales requests and prolly have a backlog of emails to try and catch up on.

HA! That made me laugh. You should have a look at FB, more of a nightmare there. And multi-threaded in comments etc. MWEB, any news on the gaming package?
