MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

As much as I can't get much downloaded or play Eve very well, nice job in keeping our browse traffic alive. Reading the other threads where people can't even browse international, quite happy to not be in that boat.

Keep it going folks, +1

OK, I have to say I am rather stoked that I chose MWeb. I am hearing talk on the radio even of people having no international access and yet as an MWeb user I am still able to browse international sites and the only gripe, which when put into perspective is not worthy of a gripe, is that downloads are a little slow. Nice one MWeb.

I'm with Mweb (4Mbps capped), and find that some sites in Europe are very congested.

Not so bad elsewhere, but still quite slow due to high latency, and timeouts (approx 10KByte/sec browsing).

Yep, glad you're coming around. It's not as bad as some of the other guys have it.

Gmail is virtually dead, other sites timing out because of low speed. Local sites are sluggish, but generally load.
This can really be considered no service today.

Torrents = dead
Browsing = Perfect
Http downloading - fine
Uncapped 384k MWEB

Not surprising, considering all bandwidth is being squeezed through SAT3 and/or SAFE at the moment and, as has been previously mentioned, torrents are, understandably, being given very low (read: none) priority. Unavoidable, unless everyone in the country is prepared to do without browsing so you can torrent ;)

@Mweb

I play BFBC2 on the local servers but the game does use a bit of traffic to connect to to EA to maintain stats. Since this outage I have not been able to play the game locally as the connection between myself and EA keeps dropping. Surely this is minimal traffic and should be able to get through? Especially on a 4Meg line. Or can we at least get the port that the game is going out on prioritised? Just so that a connection can be maintained and a player can then play on the local servers which won't disrupt the international links. At the momment it just appears as if its totally blocked.

.... so bored right now. SEA MW5 GHTHSTD (whatever), please hurry up. I have like zillion things to do, and the route to my uni's library, through a proxy, and then to jstor/ebscohost is stuffed. All because of the poor routing that TENET is using due to the maintenance. Its just broken, the internet. Aarg!

Ultimate survival kit made of two items:

1. The Internet
2. Cellphone

...in that order and the rest...not such a necessity...man...this waiting sucks...my 14 400 US Robotics was faster than this...

Please explain to the ignorant how the break in Seacom affects our local traffic? surely there should be degradation in service for INTERNATIONAL only? I wonder our ISPs are peering at CINX/JINX? Are they using AS number to propogate routes?

My Local is perfect. Just had a look at what P2P would give me and its BLOWING UP at 1.4kb haha!
BRILLIANT!

My Int seems to be Ok now. Some torrents work fine for a bit.

Rapidshare paid account gets canned instantly. Anyone know if Mweb are dropping rs connections?

Games are barely playable (just got chucked off). It took me a minute just to get this reply going. Internet is very bad tonight.

Dunno why all the hate - sure the downloads are messed up (and have been for a while, but youtube is running OK (not like before the SEACOM break but hey) and http is going great (not perfect though)... Are you guys living in the bundus or am I missing something here?

mayby....

hahaha people are just missing the fact that the seacom maintanence was lenghened and some are even responding with risidual resentment from the issues of the first 3 weeks of the month
