MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

@ MWEB I would like to know how this service is going to effect your uncapped accounts in terms of speed? We all agree the shaping some days really results in SLOW SLOOWWWW internet. Is this just going to further reduce the available BW pool or is this local BW so it will have no effect on current speeds? Please comment...

I'm having problems playing TeamFortress 2 on local servers, for the past 2 days I've been getting on/off 300+ ms on both IS and SGS servers while my international downloads are still flying at 400kb/s, any reason for this?

Edit: http://www.speedtest.net/result/804994707.png

How can international be downloading at 400kb/s currently yet I get this kind of ping locally?

Yip - I'm maxing out at 50KB/s on a 4MB line... give it till the end of the month, and then cancel if it doesn't improve.

Torrents maxing out at 50kB/s but DsTV on demand doesnt buffer at all.

Also my speedtests are quite erratic, yesterday was giving me 1Mbps whilst today I get the above

pfffft! and they said their network would be fully capable of handling DSTV on demand.....

I think they've allocated the gaming bandwidth to DSTV on Demand.

Just had a look at a Malaysian forum. They have the same problem with Rapidshare but their language is much more colourful:

"??? F***ING STREAMYX SON OF THE B***H MOTHER F***ER, you take money from us then you want to control us like terrorist PU**MAK!!!!"

:)

Question: Why on a 4Meg line does DSTvBroadband buffer into next century? Are my latencies not good enough to stream the content?

I would imagine those are fine... speeds are fine too:

How long does it take to get MWEB Uncapped?

I applied for the all inclusive 4MB line on 10 April 2010 and still nothing. Its now 5-May-2010!!!!
So how long should this take? Whats up with the service?

At this point, still nothing, no communication (unless I personally call)...nada. When consultant assure me that they will call back, nothing....

On a side note - if i were to cancel this subscription, would I still be liable for payment seeing that I have not actually used the service since the service is not active? And does the 30-day notice period apply?

What did you apply for? Do you already have an existing ADSL or did that need to be installed too?

You could try sending a PM to one of the two MWeb reps on the forums.

4mb Uncapped - All inclusive
First time getting ADSL so the line needed to be installed..

Who are the MWeb reps?

just be careful , Mweb starts billing you the moment you apply , well on the Data Bundle accounts at least. So if you going the install Telkom line separate and then get ISP ADSL route make sure you only apply @ Mweb once you have your line.

Hopefully getting my line installed next week Fri *holding thumbs*

The delay may be on Telkom's side to provide the ADSL. One of the reps made the first post in this thread, so go there to find the username to click on to send a PM. The other rep. is called "MWeb Operations" and has posted in several threads, including the one about the Seacom outage a while ago.

I imagine this is not the case with All-Inclusive, as MWeb would be aware that you would have no way to make use of your actual account (data) until the line is ready. One would hope :)

whats up with the crappy speeds recently ? i rebooted my router and still getting less than 2kbps on torrents and yes this is after hours, last night a 10pm ish i was avg 0.1 to 0.5 kbps :( unacceptable ! last week my torrents were flying at an avg 35 kbps

mweb are there issues that we don't know about ? whats going on ?

Nope - they already started billing me (pro-rated) for a few days in April during which point I had no service. They were kind enough to reverse it though.
