My question to MWEB links to the excellent post by Globetrotter and those two clauses:

I listen to streaming radio a lot - often when I am not at my computer. According to those T&C that is not allowed. What is the point of having ADSL and then having these restrictive T&C's?

MWEB please respond to this? Thank you for this thread and your making time and effort to help us understand what is what!

They have already responded to it. They admit that their standard T&C is old and out of date and that they will look to amend it to bring it in line with their current offering.

Dear MWEB,

What is happening to all your current customers who are on 384kb DSL capped accounts? I do believe we are currently paying more for our cap than what your uncapped costs. Will we be moved across to uncapped automatically at the new rate or do we have to apply?

Are you on contract or month-to-month?

I think he said it was automatic :)

I have a question about the free accounts from FreeTheWeb.

I got one of them, I just want to know, I'm thinking of calling Cybersmart and asking them to stop my uncapped account (but keep the 384k line with them)
so that I may use the free account I got from the FreeTheWeb guys. Then I can let you move the line over during April, I should be able to do this right ?

I'm also going to be out of the country from next week Wednesday (24th) till the 6th of April, how I can I make sure I receive the free account so that I may start using it as soon as I get back ?

Thanks again :)

Hi TheGuy,

Yes, you will be migrated to the new Business 4Mbps Unshaped package at the new price R1999 p/m.

While I'm at it, let me re-itterate the benefits of the Business packages over the consumer ones (i.e. why you're paying more) ...

  • It is a fully managed service – if something goes wrong, MWEB’s support engineers will remotely log on to fix a router or send an engineer on-site at no additional charge, and also liaise with Telkom on your behalf.
  • The business product is unshaped.
  • The contention ratio on our business product is lower than our consumer product.
  • MWEB includes use of a business-grade Cisco router worth R3 999 in the contract, the cost of which has to be recouped.
  • The product comes with 5 fixed IP addresses, which offer business benefits such as the capability to host and deploy a VPN connection.
  • MWEB runs a dedicated business call centre staffed by consultants with an understanding of our business environment
  • The product comes with reports including line utilisation graphing, with proactive line failure customer notification (email & SMS).

MWB.

Hi,

1. Will the business packages come with an SLA? If so, what are the time frames to repair? Will it cover Telkom line faults?
2. Are these packages available on month-2-month if the company purchases the CISCO router?

Thanks

Thanks Gatecrasher, but maybe I am being pedantic - when are they going to do this? Surely they should have done it before making this offering?

Hi Voicy,

Please can you specify the exact 384Kbps package your on e.g. Data Account only or All-Inclusive ?

MWB.

If I signup for MWEB uncapped DATA ONLY, does MWEB just give me a login and password that I enter into my router (in other words, not affect my Telkom line)? I am petrified I will switch ISP providers (currently Afrihost.co.za) and have to go 10 rounds with Telkom again.
Hi sspurious,

Correct, no need to deal with Telkom. Should you wish to switch your ADSL line rental to MWEB also, we will do all the liaising with Telkom.

Hi Fulton17,

Apologies, our T&C are amalgated for various access products, which may lead to confusion. I can assure you MWEB has no problem with you using you Uncapped ADSL service for streaming content like radio. Would be pretty pointless providing uncapped if we did.

MWB.
