MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

Umm... so you recoup the cost of the router in your price, but at the end you keep it?
Like a cell phone contact.... but you take the phone back?

Some alarm companies also do that, install it, sign you up and if you change companies they come in and rip it all out without, um... being neat. Not a fan of those contracts.

Not sure if you missed my earlier post, but I currently have a Telkom Closer 4(?) line.
Hi hambone,

Sorry, may have, difficult to keep track with the deluge of posts.

Would I need to contact Telkom myself to have Voice unbundled from the ADSL portion? Or will you guys do that for me. 'Cause if thats the case, I may find myself without an ADSL line for quite sometime.
I believe so, MWEB can only handle the ADSL line rental portion. You would need to deal with Telkom regarding the Closer package.

MWB.

Hi Madman88,

12 months is not enough time to recoup the full cost of the router. Its the risk we take based on average duration of contract (beyond inital period).

MWB.

I want to sign up for the rest of the month until April(Free month part of the lucky 1000) and pay again from May....has anyone done this or can it be done?
I called MWEB and they said they will call me back.....Its been an hour and no response......Really want it for the long weekend

@mweb I appreciate your last answer, but I fail to see why if the client purchases the router, mweb needs to lock them into a contract. Would it not be possible to have a non contracted business account.

Im sure those using, say the Vodacom Business 4meg uncapped - which is month to month by the way - would move to mweb if they had a contract free account. Even if the price was the same as VB, but it came with the fixed IP's and unshaped traffic?

Unless there are other reasons why mweb wants a contract, could you explain if there are any .

Thanks

MWEB can you please provide more information on being throttled. There does not appear to be any mention of a throttle in any of the articles.

Can you please comment on this statement?

I don't know if this has been answered already does anyone know if mweb is shaping rapidshare

Rapdishare is not P2P its normal web port 80 download but some ISP's tend to shape it because its got a bit of a bad name for people downloading pirated stuff from it

trust me. If it contains episodez or moviez, then it is being shaped. I know it is http and not strictly P2P, but I can guarantee you that Mweb knows about it and is shaping it. They are shaping everything that will have an impact on their network performance.

and what about NZB's? will they also be affected?

what astraweb server and port works best with Mweb uncapped? what speed are you getting during peek hours? after hours?

Just use the normal default server and port (no SSL).

But just remember that Mweb is going to shape the Astraweb during business hours. So you will only get the best speeds on week nights from 8 pm to 8 am... and on weekends.

At full speed you should get 420 kbps on a 4 meg line (20 connections). Peak hours it can drop as low as 30 kbps.

TO MWEB :

Hi

Can you please let me know what your companies policy is regarding rapidshare downloads?

I'm only getting 50kb/s on the 4mb/s service, and this is the whole reason why I signed up for your uncapped service.

"Is it really Uncapped?
Yes it is. Unlimited data, all the time. "

If it is indeed the case that I can only download 50kb/s please let me cancel with immediate effect.

but you were warned about this yesterday when the product was announced. Lots of people were warning you to be careful and go into this with your eyes open (including me). Did you not see us talking about that yesterday? Now all of a sardine, you are miffed cos you can't rape the account? What did you expect for that price?
