Agreed.

I hardly broke even with K/D last night - ping times noticeable affected my p@wnage ability with the "first to click the mouse gets the kill".

Will be switching to my Afrihost account for gaming until this gets resolved/better/at all.

The difference between MWEB throttling "abusers" of their uncapped local-only access, which is what you're referring to above, and their current uncapped offer, is that the latter is an official MWEB product. The former was never an official product.

actually there was no throttling, just cut off's and fines, right out of the blue, REALLY did a lot to blacken MWEB's name
 
Mweb - I just signed up for the free account via the email - then realized its no real point cause I have a 4MB line and wanted to compare it to my current SP - which I can't do.

Can I donate the account to someone on the forum?

EDIT: Before I get another 50 pm's - I'll start the usual thread where everyone gets to post and random number generator gets to chose the thread :) If Mweb agrees.

Hi All,

Thought I'd just re-clarify a few things regarding dns resolution & news.mweb.co.za.

Firstly the MWEB news service (the real one) is only accessible from the MWEB network. To verfiy that you are actually on the MWEB network go to http://www.whatsmyip.co.za/ddclient.php ... the IP address you should be allocated will be in the following ranges ...

41.132.X.X
41.133.X.X
41.134.X.X
41.135.X.X

If you have an IP not within the above ranges, you are not on the MWEB network yet (e.g. existing customer pre-migration), or possibly have some incorrect proxy settings in your browser. For the MWEB network no proxy setting are neccessary, thus all previous ones should be removed.

In order to correctly resolve the IP address for news.mweb.co.za (196.28.78.229 is the correct address currently), you need to be using MWEB's DNS servers. It is highly recommended you allow your router to auto-learn the MWEB DNS servers instead of hardwiring them, as over time they may change. The current DNS server IPs being assigned are ...

196.28.80.140
196.28.80.139

... however these may change/expand in the future.

If you are not using MWEB's DNS servers you will resolve news.mweb.co.za to a different address, usually an alias to another network's news service (which will be blocked from the MWEB network). These alias were historically provided for MWEB customers utilising these other networks (e.g. SAIX wholesale ADSL or IS dialup).

Will ports used for VNC or remote desktop be shaped during office hours?
 
on mweb uncapped 384k, im getting around 1gb to 1.6 avg gb's per day on well seeded torrents, on screamer i was getting 2.4gb's per day when all was working, but i only switched to mweb because 1 they cam ein with cheep offer, they have service and infrastructure, all im saying is im bum'd at the speeds im getting on mweb.

Hi AmonRe,

VNC & RDP are not included in the priority traffic class for the consumer (Connect) Uncapped ADSL products, they will therefore be susceptible to shaping during peak network load.

Should you wish permium performance from these protocols (during work hours) MWEB recommends you use one of our Business Uncapped ADSL packages which have no priority based shaping and benefit from a lower bandwidth contention ratio.

Hi mystic007,

We have been promised no later than 1 April, hopefully we're not going to be fooled by you know who.

Jokes aside I must state though, this does not suddenly mean line speed for all most of the time. These systematic capacity upgrades (this is just the first) coincide with the continued migration of our existing customer base. That said we believe most will benefit from the synergy of scale which reduces the statistical probablity of congenstion on the network (thus severity of shaping) at any one point in time.

That news server URL doesn't work at all!
Yes, the IP is MWEB.
 
Hi,
I would like to know whether ports 80, 110 and 25 are blocked as I cannot access my mail and web server on the MWEB package.
I can however access my Teamspeak server.
Could you enlighten me? :)

Hi Jonno2343,

MWEB definatedly do not block the ports you mentioned above. I suspect they are being blocked elsewhere before the server.

I have definative feedback. We only provide around 235 days retention on news articles, sometimes you may be lucky to get more.
