I'm hoping that they have said "6-8 days" simply to placate us, so that when it's up and running by tomorrow, we're all seriously impressed :) EASSy is scheduled to come online this month. I wonder if MWeb has purchased capacity there. Then when the east link goes down, we just switch over to the west link :)

You mean like when they say an hour or two.... and its actually up and down the entire weekend?

I'm on the Bigtime Uncapped, And I think that I'm going insane due to the lack of high speed internet in my house. (All thanks to Mweb and Telkom) They're in cahoots you know ;)

For sure :) I would call them regarding your bill and make sure they have it right. You might even get some free months if your overpaying.

its amusing how frequent they have issues with this cable, you would think something that cost 600m would at least be a bit more resilient to certain conditions

Yea because laying km's and km's of undersea cable must be a pretty simple task.

I'd be pretty pissed if I was renting bandwidth from them... surely they must have at least some SLA - I mean 6-8 days is a good % of a months downtime.

Yeah, I wonder if MWeb gets anything back from SEACOM.

First cable or 100th cable, it's still a complex and expensive undertaking. Relax. You've got international connectivity now. You'll be downloading your precious internetz again soon enough :)

Firstly.. Read. Secondly i never said it was simple, i said.. They spent 600 million on this. SURELY they could have ensured the stability and integrity of the cabling and repeaters for this, if a ship laid its anchor into a repeater then fine, issues and issues and more issues.

So let me get this straight because someone wants there internet to work properly and get what they are paying for its a crime? They must accept the fact that this ISP does not have corrective measures in place to circumvent problems like this? There so called sat3 provisioned redundancy is a joke at best.

I leave on Monday for three weeks (going up Africa for work) - you'll think I'll be able to download something before then to take with me for my monthly R1000?

And get what you pay for BLASPHEMY

I'm not getting into this MWeb/SEACOM discussion again. We talked it to death in April when SEACOM was down and exactly the same issues are being raised again. Yes, nothing's changed in three months. Yes, we're all being ripped off. Yes, MWeb and SEACOM and Telkom and Internet and South Africa and Africa and everything sucks. Yes, we're all so complacent and accept poor service. Bleating and bleating about it here does nothing to repair the cable or to create redundancy. Complain all you like, if it makes you feel better; it ain't gonna fix the cable :)

Yet you always seem to bring it up.

It's being discussed here because the cable is down at the moment. I'm just amazed that the same old complaints are hauled out, dusted off, and reposted once again. Then we rehash the whole issue again. MWeb this. SEACOM that. Redundancy here. Rip-off there. Enjoy though, I'm outta here :)

Alright, then here's a new question:

@Mwebrep, @MwebOperations, with EASSy gone into testing recently and the provisioning of the cable (soon?), what are MWebs plans for redundancy with it. Understandable that with Seacom down, our accounts are limited as Sat3 can't handle all the traffic but with a third cable, and a much larger cable, will this policy continue? And when WACS comes online will it be the same?

Look sat3 is the cable that has always been supplying bandwidth for SA ADSL (when they used the cable)

Let’s see that costs R69 per GB according to Telkom which just happens to be the majority stake holder in the sat3 cable

Which means this downtime is costing MWEB a hell of a lot even with P2P shaped to hell

Thanks for at least get alternative up and running MWEB
Just hope it works for gaming or at least Battlefield bad company2 authentication

As for proper redundancy that will be here when the new line comes online
I would assume MWEB has already been speaking to the people at easy for more bandwith and backup connections

as for downtime Remember Telkom's sat 3 cable has also gone down a couple of times
They then route you via their satellite links in Cape Town while still charging you for optimal usage

This is kinda cool actually, it seems that normal HTTP is fine but torrents are limited to local traffic only. So for the first time I only see SA peers in uTorrent - local is lekker :p

But seriously though, this will not be funny anymore by Friday. So please get it sorted out by then.

WTF...I hope this is not permanent!?!? Because same with me, no torrent seems to be working, went offline last night somewhere around 10. Well, luckilly it isn't just me...was scared mweb blocked all my torrents. Any one know of when its coming online again?
