Hi Will

Am I correct in saying that the IPC upgrades have now been fully completed?

Correct, the Cape Town link is fully operational and customer segmentation between North and South is to the best of my understanding complete. The last thing we're waiting on now is for the additional 1.2Gb of Seacom to be lit up.

Will..

Why I am still downloading at 32k for astroweb.. I used to get about 60k at this time of day before the IPC upgrade?

If everything is completed, then why on earth can't I even get speedtest.net to do a speed test and why does my 40kbps streaming audio lag like mad? I'm on 512 uncapped unshaped.

This is like iBurst, only much slower...

Well he just said everything isn't complete. International bandwidth will be the biggest bottleneck, unless your speedtest isn't working even for local.

Also getting high pings now... maybe there's some tweaking in order.

Only got 32kb/s working on my line and pings jump up to the high 400-500's

The CT-Jhb leg has not improved since the IPC upgrades, AFAIK.

Latency to the UK is also awful this evening (600ms...)

Thanks Gordon - I'm glad to see that your line is back up - hope it wasn't too much of a fight.

This doesn't look like our normal Clareinch problems, I've escalated to our networks team to investigate and let me know what's causing this.

And then when traffic runs while pinging ( 90kb/s on a 4meg should not be doing this imo )

I think you're missing the point:

They are definitely shaping certain services:
These are speed tests vs actual speeds (HF & RS premium) at the same time:

If it is true that the IPC have been upgraded and you only waiting on the international network access, why then is the news server so slow?

If you have no IPC constraints, then the news server will fly, because it is local...?

I am over it now. For the last 4 weeks I have been unable to download anything, torrents run at 2kb/s max, news servers don't run at all. I was on the phone with mweb and they said they sorted it out, worked for a day and then back to normal speeds. This is pathetic, will give the technical support one more chance, then switch provider.

Make sure your router/PC is not setup to block certain ports etc.
This can also cause your torrent speeds to really be slow!

When I thought that the speeds could not get any slower... they do

18k a second from astroweb tonight on my 4 Meg line...

Yeah mine has been poor all day to, my first real day without any real speeds.

Besides astraweb etc etc, the mweb news server andt torrents are painful.

I hope this Sunday upgrade fixes it :/

Otherwise i will be forced to get out my 2-2 and go cheer them on because i want my speeds as of 4 weeks ago back.
