Well, it looks like I spoke too soon and my MWEB service is back to 'normal' -nothing to extremely slow torrents, and MWEB newsgroups not connecting at all most of the time. Why is it back to this state when it was fine for 2 days or so? There's something more going on here than I think MWEB are willing to admit to. This experience is too similar to what remember others reporting...
I think it is simply a case of capacity vs demand. MWEB has not made any mention of doing further capacity upgrades, so I assume this is how it will be for all non priority protocols for the foreseeable future. The slight upside is that people will start leaving MWEB for greener pastures (which they are already from the posts here), which might free up some bandwidth and see an improvement for us. On the other hand, as they attract more new clients the freed up bandwidth will be gone again.
What to do I wonder...
