I'm not the first person with this brainwave it seems. I have decided to hack a hole in the side of my router's case and buy a fan to fit. Off I went to my favourite cheap-**** retailer, DX to order this:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5129

Note the first review:

I plugged it into an electrical current of 12V 5A and it is working very well for the purpose. I've always had problems with ADSL modems that they lost the signal or lagged by overheating, he resolved my problems.

Interesting, I'm guessing then that WA send their traffic through a cooling tower, cause router runs full speed when I use them. :p

Excellent, thanks for the idea! A friend has volunteered an old dead HP laptop he has for parts. Don't think I can do it as neatly as that, the netgear casing is probably a bit of a tighter fit, but as long as it works.

"Are you an MWeb user? Depserate for bandwidth? Cool off your frustration with a frozen router, guaranteed for ice-breaking internet speeds!!"

:D:D:D

Well, confirmation that torrenting is useless.

My mweb is running like a dream. Getting 400KB/s 24/7 on HTTP downloads and torrents is not bad at all. Guess I'm the lucky person. WOW MWEB FTW!!!!!! I really think mweb is the best. I'm downloading and playing black ops with +- 25 -30 ping. maybe check your router settings.

This is my trick and it doesn't bypass shaping. My internet was also slow before I installed Untangle firewall. You don't need to be a IT guru to use this. If you need advice please pm me

@Hecate, look at your latency from your own router - something is happening on your side.

I haven't read this topic but I'm going to post my findings as an Mweb uncapped customer.

Downloading is fine. No complaints there, but the browsing is pretty terrible. It is terrible most of the time, even late at night. Let me give you an example of what happens to me browsing websites on Mweb Uncapped 384kb:

- Open Chrome, goes to Google.co.za.
- Go to unexplained-mysteries.com. Open a topic or 2.
- Open leakerz.net in different tab.
- Wait 30 seconds, still doesn't load fully.
- Hit refresh, wait another 30 seconds staring at a white screen now.
- Refresh again, opens fully after about 10 seconds.
- Right click on a Youtube link to open in new window.
- It stays a white screen. Refresh after 1 minute, wait 30 seconds, still white screen.
- Close it. Right click again, open the Youtube link in another window. White screen for 1 min.
- Close it.
- Go and bang my head against the the wall.

By the way, this happens with all websites, most of the time.

So anyway, today Mweb is having problems with account management, so my account is still down from reactivating (after a couple of hours after paying). So I load up my freeadsl.co.za account from @lantic, and used this opportunity to test browsing sites. It's wonderful, it's working 100% and no bloody need to hit refresh AT ALL! So I am assuming the problem lies with Mweb...

Hi Gimaru

Please let me know once your account is active again so that I can arrange for some troubleshooting on your browsing experience.

EDIT: Also as a first point could you make sure that your DNS settings are all on automatic so that you are being assigned the correct MWEB DNS servers. If you are connecting with a router and find that you have to assign a DNS address on your PC, then use the IP address of the router for DNS on the PC and make sure the router is set to detect DNS automatically.

Thank you for the response Will@Mweb, I sent you a private message regarding the matter.

Hi Rouxenator. If you can provide me with some examples of files you've had problems with I'll try and replicate here and take it further. you are routing via Cape Town if memory serves me correctly?

Yes, I have emailed technin@mweb but this did not help. I also tried it on two other accounts and it does seem that broken files are cached. Will check again tonight and if it still is not working I will PM you.

Why does the proxy cache broken files to begin with ?

Why does the proxy cache broken files to begin with ?
It's because you use HTTP, and not torrents ! or my favorite.. NEWS SERVERS !

On a more serious note, I think it fails because it cannot calculate the correct size, it caches, and then keeps the broken file - probably because there is no MD5 hashing verification being done .

BTW, MWEB - shot for the good speeds.. done 180 Gig for Dec , and I am happy.
750 gigs in 9 months now :) tx a lot
