It's probably the truth that Mweb doesn't want openly to admit. Where would he get it from otherwise?

Stop desperately grasping at straws. There are any number of explanations. Maybe he meant to post the that 384 uncapped shaped account is not meant for 24/7 downloading or is not the best option for p2p downloading or is not meant for business use because he just spoke to a business client and had that on his mind. I don't have any problems downloading on my 384 uncapped shaped account, so I don't know what he would have been "admitting" to anyway.

I would rather have the ISP representatives feel free to post here, rather than having every word they post being dissected for the slightest mistake to criticize them, chasing them away from here. It won't be the first time someone wasn't clear in what he posted, or having it open for interpretation.

Just me asking: What does it mean when they say 're-auth' (as in re authorize?) your account? Why would this sometimes improve or restore your speeds? And lastly, for it to take effect, why must you power down for 20-30min?

Just curious, Gus.

Hi Gus

Good question. It's really just a bit of internal jargon that we have here which requires some understanding of our systems, but in a nutshell we have front end business systems that your product is defined on and linked to billing etc and this is 'provisioned' onto backend systems which store usernames, passwords product profiles and so forth. Very occasionally there might be some issue with the backend profile and a re-auth is quite literally a push button function on the front end that refreshes the provisioning of the account.

EDIT: Sorry I missed the 2nd half of your question: The only reason it would have any effect on your speeds is if your account had somehow been provisioned incorrectly and was locked on the wrong speed. I have seen occasional discrepancies from the point of Sale where the customer chose product A and was setup on product B, but personally I've never seen the provisioning go wrong in this respect so really this step in the troubleshooting is about being thorough and covering all the options. If it does have a positive effect on your speeds I'd like to find out why myself :D

Anyone else currently having problems. Keep losing connection - dropped about 5 times in the last hour, for a few seconds. Most likely a Telkom problem I would think. When its up it very slow.

So much for a solution today, I was told by Mweb they would get a Telkom rep to look at the line today, so much for that.

Just out of interest, why promise a customer a service that you yourself have no control over?

Secondly, off peak night of reasonable browsing, something about the "noise on line" argument doesnt hold merit.

MOrning Gibson, your query was followed up with Telkom yesterday as per the fault logged. We will follow up with them today and provide you the relevant feedback.

Kind regards, MWEB Ops

Shaped to death.
Took me three days to download a 899m file on utorrent.
Even woke up late one night to check speeds and it was running a 0.3kbs.
I have not many other complaints against Mweb other than their P2P shapping.
It was initially promised that throttling/shaping would be a peak time only thing but one is assuming it has now become a blanket 24/7 policy. Unfortunately games like Company of Heroes Online/ Rise of Flight and other MMO's require you to download the game as a torrent. And they download at snails pace.
But no I am not threatening to leave Mweb just stating real world realities. The uncapped service sux unless you have the money to use a site that circumvents Mwebs T & Cs So to them Mweb uncapped is heaven on earth to the rest of us it is a tool. The first price increase I dump it. :D

Morning Blaze and Ibanez; are you guys still experiencing speed problems this morning?

Kind regards, MWEB ops

It is NOT good enough to have speeds go decently from 2am or 3am in the morning! Your shaping is becoming progressively WORSE! I have never thought of leaving Mweb EVER, but I havent had a PC in 2 weeks and only just got it back, my que is huge and if I am now only getting 4GB a night I would rather move to openweb!!!!
