Hi Mypro-D

What is the combined speed you are getting if you download 2 or 3 files simultaneously? Please provide me the result you are getting of those files.

Please PM me your mweb account details in order for me to investigate your account further.

As long as you arent getting packet loss it shouldnt be an issue. My problems disappeared last night and WoW was fine with the odd spikes. That is probably because of my attenuation which I am trying to fix(with mweb's help :)). Not to mention the game I play says Broadband is 4mbit ADSL. I only have 1mbit adsl. Hence why at peak times it can easily use more then 100kb/s and thats why I get low throughput since my line can only take up to 100kb/s and nothing more.

There are a lot of issues that can cause you to be disconnected that Mweb or Telkom have no part in, such as international routing dying and having to go through many more routes to get your information. This can cause high latency. Generally when you get disconnected from a game, the buffer the connection uses gets full due to either 1) packets lost (critical in applications that use TCP, which majority of games use) 2) Bad international/local routing causing packets to take an exceptionally long time to reach you(timeout occurs due to packets not being received in a timely manner and you get disconnected). I have had many issues with this regard and have spent quite a bit of time learning why it is I get the lag spikes or disconnections.

What I would like to know though, is why I am getting packet loss some nights and nothing the other nights?

Also getting terrible, if not erratic speeds. Got full line speed on a torrent 20 minutes ago but the 3 other torrents I had downloading since monday morning never got close to full line speed from the time I put them on (this time Monday) until they finished last night. Also noticing browsing can become very slow at around 4-6pm. What has changed since getting 30kb/s in working hours and full line speed after 5pm? I miss those days.

Morning Guantanamo

PLease DM me your mweb account details and we will check for any irregullarities; also is the browsing problem a daily problem?

Kind regards,

hi, just moved to mweb uncapped 4mb, would really like to know what I can expect my p2p (emule) speeds to be throughout the day, like when will the ultra shaping (super slow) kick in and when will that be slightly lifted and when can I expect full line speed.

By the way, I am loving the performance of VoIP on the uncapped.

Expect to the shaped to death during the day for p2p/nntp/online storage sites. After hours is great though.

I would love to move to mweb 4mb uncapped as the 512k uncapped just isn't fast enough for proper video skyping and youtube goodness... Unfortunately my local exchange isn't 4mb enabled so i'm stuck :-(

Morning TrueTenacity

Perhaps you should then look at our unshaped options, perhaps they suit your needs better than the shaped service. If you'd like, we can have a consultant call you to provide you more information on our unshaped offerings

Kind regards,

Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but I somehow don't think an unshaped service is going to make Youtube videos download faster than 48k...

Does MWEB shape Youtube and Skype?

No, we do not shape Youtube or Skype. However shaped traffic may have less impact on priority services like Youtube and Skype.

TrueTenacity, I will speak to my manager to verify if possible for us to gain access to a test account for period of 24hours. We can then establish if these services operate better on an unshaped service.

Kind regards,

I think someone's missing the point...

I have a 512k service, so my line tops out at around 48kb/s... converting that to an unshaped service will still only make it go at 48kb/s... but garner mweb an extra R300 a month...

I understand your concerns TrueTenacity and they are relevant, I am only looking to verify if this service will improve your experience in anyway.
