MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

MegasXLR, why are you defending mweb so much? Do you really believe these are all individual user errors or line errors that start for users in different parts of the country at the same times and when we log onto another ISP account its 100% fine?

I compiled a rude and direct answer you really deserve but decided not to drop to your level and edited this post. I say what Mweb reps obviously are not allowed to say or they are just to decent to say but what they should say to you.

Point is I already stated that I find it strange that certain experienced MyBB users complain, on request send their details to a Mweb rep, and we never hear from them again. That must mean their problem is solved, else they would have complained again. So far everytime there was a specific known problem with the network the reps gave meaningful feedback to indicate the problem and resolve. Point in case is the still pending case of the missing packets problem a few posts back. Was that also an Mweb Issue?

I do not defend Mweb as much as I want to get rid of Your repeated whining on every post when someone have a problem with speed. Count the individual users with speed problems or other problems in this thread and then compare them with the repeat whiners. When you leave Mweb, please god let it be soon, then this thread will restore to normality and functions for it's intended use. The fact that you and a few others that follow and support you, make it your daily agenda to irritate everyone on this thread is the problem. Mweb already told you what your situation is. This thread is about a uncapped and shaped account, speeds will drop and change, lately worse than before but there is no reason to make this thread hell for everyone. You calmed down and became pleasant since yesterday but now you are back to your old way. Just cancel the service and move on please.

My internet is behaving rather well also tonight, hope it stays Mweb! Will say if something comes up.

Mine is still going nicely, have some downloads going, connected to work via the VPN and I can browse the internet without an issue. I'm on a 1mb line, avg dl speed of 100kb/s at the moment. Thanks Mweb.

I take it that this 100KB is only in the evening? What speeds do you get during the day?

speed test results:
ping: 603ms
d/l: 0.30mbps
u/l: 0.26mbps

J0n0 and MegasXLR. This will be the last time i respond to you, well, i will try not to at least.
Thing is, you guys talk about stuff like making the thread hell for everyone. Maybe you get annoyed by my posts but i really dont care even in the slightest. You are the ones quoting me and posting directly at me, that also contributes to derailing the thread. So take your own advice and stop posting about me, at least im talking about / too mweb and the actual connection issues instead of just sitting here like you guys waiting for me to post so you can flame me. You do not have to read my posts, you can put me on ignore as a user so you never have to read a post again, but its YOUR choice to read it, so the whole im making this thread hell for everyone is pretty much pointless.

If they fix what they broke, I will not be posting, so it kinda goes both ways?

26kb/s tonight, which is acceptable at least. Going to reset my router for 30 min and check again.

Please, if you dont want me to derail or make this thread hell as you put it, stop quoting and baiting me. RULE OF THE INTERNET. DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. Learn it.

This may be a fairly lengthy post, here goes.

A couple of general things. Firstly, not everyone is going to post when they are having a problem. I for example will browse this thread and if I see a number of posts highlighting the same issue that I am experiencing, I assume it's a general issue and that MWeb are attending to it so I won't bother posting (partly to prevent cluttering up an already cluttered thread).
Secondly, many posts do not provide much information of use. They will simply be along the lines of "my connection's slow" or "my speed sucks" and so on. I guess this is possibly why many PMs are requested by Will. Many people don't even have their location listed which could be of some help. I also think a decent proportion of problems are not MWeb related or under their control.
Thirdly, from the postings over the last week and a half (and this is my personal observation) there does appear to be a widespread issue with MWeb. Though it appears to be prevalent in Gauteng, and is mainly limited to certain types of shaped traffic (Usenet/news servers in particular).

Now for my problem in particular. This will be my 8th month with MWeb (uncapped, shaped on 4096kbps line). I'm not a particularly difficult customer and am fairly easy to please, so while there has been an issue here and there, I have been quite happy overall and have not considered moving in that time. 138GB is the largest amount of data I have downloaded in one month in that period. Most of that coming off Usenet/news servers (Giganews to be specific). During office hours I would get 10KB/s and while this is extremely slow on a 4096kbps line I understood, due to it being a shaped account and was satisfied with that. Speed would increase to 60KB/s early evening once shaping started to relax, then late night 120KB/s and finally 250+KB/s early hours of the morning when shaping was at it's lowest. So while at times the speeds may have been slow it was consistent. Then around 10 days ago something changed, and since then downloading from Giganews at any time other than the early hours of the morning has been an exercise in futility, with speeds being non-existent, peaking now and again at 2KB/s. Let me say, that browsing and downloading e-mail has been fine, as has downloading from Steam (running at 250+KB/s). Speedtests also show the account to be fine. I also have a number of other accounts with different ISPs (both freebies and capped), and when using these, Giganews runs at full speed so I am confident in saying that it is not a line or exchange problem. The fact that Giganews also runs at full speed on MWeb itself during the early hours of the morning when shaping is at it's most relaxed suggests that the shaping has a major role in whatever changed 10 days ago.
What I simply want to know from MWeb/Will is, are MWeb aware of this? Are they investigating? And is there any reasonable expectation of the speeds on the news server returning to what they were previously (slow at times but consistent), or are MWeb satisfied with the way things are running at the moment in regards to the shaping and they don't forsee much change?

Hi Freshy-ZN,

I had a look into your account and it shows many dropped connections. Is your DSL cable plugged directly into your Telkom jack?
Do you have filter's on your other Telkom points in your house, if any?

Have you called Telkom to check your line as MWEB does does manage your ADSL line. I can refresh your MWEB account, which I will do right now and then you need to reboot your router for 20-30min.

Could your also send me ping and tracert results to international & local sites to help me troubleshoot what's going on your account. I know you saying it's slow but could you provide me more of a description of what is slow e.g. browsing, email or downloading?

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

MWEB Guy I only just saw this now so I havent done the router reset for 20-30mins thing. However some time this afternoon my speeds became even worse. Now because you said you refreshed my account I dont know if that has something to do with it. Tonight I see my router is syncing at 1680kbps then I unplug and reboot and its 2220kbps - different syncs every reboot.

I must be honest and tell you that the voice part of my line has been down for a few days but thankfully the ADSL didnt fall down with it. Having said that my internet portion has been no better or no worse so the voice portion being down seems to have no bearing. Telkom actually were here this afternoon but didnt do anything as they couldnt get access to the underground manhole. The tech has handed it over to repair division. So that doesnt seem to account for the sudden degradation this afternoon either.

For the last couple of months I have had general poor performance on MW uncapped. Browsing and especially Youtube is very laggy. If I get a good torrent I can get 150 - 180 Kbps on the download but generally 80-100. Since this afternoon Youtube is almost stopped and browsing extra slow. I will unplug and turn off the router when I go to bed tonite and check in the morning. (Telkom should also repair the line tomorrow)

One thing I have noticed over the last few months and I think I have mentioned it here and/or posted the speedtest results is that the ping to the Durban Vodacom server on Speedtest.net is always around 250ms but the ping to the Joburg servers (cellc i think) are 35ms. This hase been consisently the case and worries me. Another thing I keep meaning to do is try borrow a normal ADSL account from someone and test it against the uncapped account but havent had this opportunity yet.

Hey Asy1um, i know im not an Mweb representative but from what Will has related to me the speeds that we are experiencing now on News servers from 10 days ago (exactly when my problems started too) are "normal" and they do not see it changing. Honestly i have been trying to get a public response to this from them for a few days now, but i get ignored. You are asking in a much nicer way maybe they will answer now ! I got an answer from them, which is basically what i just told you, but i am not allowed to paste their answer or i will be banned :( All the best of luck to you man, hope we get our speeds back to normal but after their answer its a snowflakes change in hell.

To the other ppl in this thread, Im glad Asy1um posted, just hope other people who generally just read also post if they have the same issues which started 10 days ago.

My request for Will or Mweb to openly just tell the people that the News speeds that changed 10 days ago are here to stay has had no answers. Please just answer us on these forums to everyone so people who just read these forums from time to time can get the answer they are looking for.

Again, hope we get a public answer to this :(

PS: It is getting better, tonight im getting full speeds at 11pm instead of 1am. Every improvement counts. Step in the right direction etc :)

at one stage last night I was getting finally speeds up to just over 40kbps connecting to the news servers, then snail speed this morning, no consistency, think I should revert back to 512 account,
was getting better speeds than the 1mb account, that unless there is an issue over there as well....
international seems to be good, but local sucks why??? guess telkom still holds the monopoly... local should be way faster than international, think we going backwards

Were you automatically upgraded or did you have to pay to upgrade?

i logged in this morning to WoW just before leaving to work had 921ms latency i never had a chance to do any kind of speed test......Please get rid of that stupid management software you guys went and put in

The international throughput has been dodgy of late, interrupted connections are becoming rather frequent.

Feels like iBurst all over again :(
