no does not work like it anymore i understand.

though i think still changes your i.p you still use same data centre

OK well have just rebooted router as I could not access Mweb Home page. This i understand is some kind of DNS problem as most other sites work just fine. Its only Mweb that times out. Rebooted using dslmweb as opposed to mweb which I have been using for last few days. Will see what happens.

.Torrent files appear to be "shaped to death" when downloading them for the last week. Downloading the txt versions work fine and switching to a backup isp works fine but here I sit on my Mweb account stuck at 8kb.........and the horrifying thing is I'm on the unshaped package :'(

i would love to see a response to this. they are keeping quiet on this issue, no one willing to say yea or nay

Ive been asking for a public response to this for like 5 days. They are reading our posts, they just do not want to reply to it. All the hard questions never get answered :( Sadly.
They do however quote 1 or 2 people and blame someone else.

Please mweb, just answer the real questions people need answers too. Its clearly not just me asking anymore, but a bunch of people. When they do reply it will be something generic which wont give us a clear answer, rather i think they will give us hope so people continue to pay them in the hopes it will be resolved :(

I really do not know why they arent replying even to people asking it nicely like you guys.
As always, this comment will fall into the cracks and never get answered, but be sure, they are reading it, they just dont want to answer.

Would also like to know answers. Lets keep an eye on this post and wait for MWEB to respond later in the thread to someone else. Then see if this got ignored, or if it does get answered it must not be generic answers like you said. Proper proper answers, not "we are looking into it" or "we aren't aware of any issues at the moment" because someone at MWEB has to know.

Because of his trolling, ranting and rude BS Sillicur must be now on official Ignore by Mweb and they will unfortunately not respond to his childish 12year old behavioral misconduct.

lol It wasn't his post that needs answering though. It was further back. Questions were asked and 2 or 3 people agreed that they wanted answers.

Yup, i just replied because i saw other ppl within the same time frame having the same issues. I have my answer from them anyway, which i may not paste so only reason im posting now is because I want them to answer everyone else who are also struggling.

Its sad that some people like MegasXLR keeps throwing out personal insults every time i post, as if they are sitting here refreshing the page waiting for me to post :)

Hopefully they reply to all the other people having the same issues, lets wait and see.

GL guys.

Unfortunately it seems as if Mweb finally abandoned this thread thanks to Sillycur. Well done mate.

Best is to PM the mweb reps if you want a solution to your problem. Common decency will go a long way towards getting action to solve your problems.

My newsserver download just dropped from 200KB/s down to 30 KB/s. How sad.

Well the News server is flying again at a decent 150+ KB/s for me. :) excluding the 50KB/s torrents which is also running.

Well what were they doing anyway apart from saying reboot your rooter and we'll get back to you. I see very little substance in their replies.

Not seems, IMHO is being throttled.

I have had a 512 Mweb account since July last year, been getting on average between 50 and 52.5 kB/sec , 24/7 up until i went away just after Easter, came back on the 3rd of May and havent seen that since then.
I have 1 premium membership at one site that always gave me those speeds on downloads, i am now averaging out at 35 kB/sec on the same site.
I know it is not my line because i see Telkom bumped my 512 up to 1024, and for a brief while this morning at 2am :wtf: i averaged out at 56 kB/sec for a short while, even spiking up to 59.
When i run a speedtest, it spikes up to almost 70 but then drops to 35 odd almost immediately as the throttle kicks in.

The only other time i suffered with slow speeds like this was during the Seacom cable debacle, and that was understandable and acceptable.

It is clear to me that the line is being throttled by Mweb, not only reflected by speed test but also on HTTP downloads.
I was considering increasing my account to the 1mb data package, however if this new apparent scrooge policy remains the norm i will rather consider downgrading to the 384 line and using that extra cash towards a second account elsewhere.

If this is the case , would you please be so kind as to update your T&C section , to reflect this policy, as i dont seem to be able to find any referance to HTTP downloads off 1 click hosting sites.
If it is stated would you please point me towards the section it is stated as i cannot source this on your legal notices or on your AUP page.
If this is going to be the norm, hidden and disguised under some other abitary wording in your AUP well then thank you for stating so , as i can now make alternate arrangements, WRT my requirements in the future.
Thank you

Just maybe Mweb should take a page out of their own AUP

Hi Nanfeishen.

We don't specifically publish a list of what gets shaped and there are updates from time to time as new services are discovered and added, but as a general rule all P2P like activities fall into the realm of shaped content, which includes traditional swarming protocols such as bittorrent, nntp news, torrent vpn and seedbox services and the ever growing list of sites which are referred to loosely as '1 click hosts' which are used 99% of time to share the same content as can be found on other p2p platforms.

This has been discussed here numerous times in this thread however it never hurts to mention it again. I just had a look at the FAQ post on our help site regarding what gets shaped and I think it could use a bit more clarity for future reference - I'll make sure that gets addressed.

I trust this clears things up for you.

Kind Regards
Will

Thanks Requim, the feedback is much appreciated; please keep me informed.

Kind regards, MWEB Guy

A quick update: After 3 days of waiting, Telkom has finally fixed my line. According to them it was part of a larger problem affecting my area. Doing a speedtest to a local server seems to indicate that everything is better:

Doing a speedtest to an international server however, and things are not so good:

Also downloading from example nvidia.com is very slow, I'm getting an average of 20bk/s
Is there something going on with international traffic?

All fine here for now. Touch wood.

A shaped service is just that, a shaped service based on consumer demand. More consumers online means more shaping. You may be interested in the 4096 WA business unshaped. The best product available or Openweb Platinum. Have a look.
