I started downloading very large games from Steam and I'm getting pretty much max line speed the whole time (40KB/s on a 384kb/s line) I plan to keep it running 24/7. Since this is not P2P and I'm not bypassing any shaping protocols, not to mention it's coming from the MWEB JHB Steam server, am I gonna get complaints from MWEB about this? I'm referring to the "prolonged download sessions at line, or near line speeds which is placing an undue burden on our network and is not in keeping with our Acceptable Usage Policy" thing.
We monitor consistant paterns of behaviour which can constatute abuse, however steam does not fall into this catogary.
So we can download off Steam 24x7 at full speed and its not abuse?![]()
If you bypass our shaping rules to continuously download at full line speed, then that would constitute abuse.
Ahh - thanks for the clarification. Ergo if we don't ever bypass shaping we will never be considered abusers no matter how much is downloaded![]()
That's what he has been saying for the last 18months.

so to clarify, if you observed on line A that the user is abusing and bypassing protocols (in your opinion) then you will do what? throttle that persons line?
enable stronger shaping on the protocols that he is using?
They receive a warning from the abuse team. If they persist the abuse team will recommend they upgrade to unshaped or cancel their account. AFAIK.
Eish this kinda questions make me nervous, seeing I download 180GB a month
You gonna get nailed eventually if you in that range. You in the same range as me, so eventually they will TRY to shape your connection into the ground!!
I don't roll over that easily though. If I was pulling 400GB a month I would understand, but 100GB-150GB a month on an uncapped account is not out of sight...
if i abuse my connection, can i get a cancellation before the end of next month?
I agree a 100% I think its only like the first 3-5 months you wanna download the whole internet. Specially all those TV shows you dont own yet.. Then after that you kinda go mellow, im sure Mweb have seen this on NUMEROUS occasions with new users.
