Once again I ask you. Is using SSL on Usenet considered bypassing of your shaping rules? Straight answer please.

I would think so as you are disguising your traffic in ssl packets and hence the shaper can't allocate it properly.

Quick question, I am currently looking into 1Mbps uncapped from MWeb and I would just like to know the following, if anybody would be kind enough to help:

I game quite a bit online both on local and international servers, could I get a rough idea what ping's I can expect (EU servers mainly) using this shaped 1Mbps uncapped connection from MWeb?

If you are on 4 Mbps it means that you are using about 15% of the capacity of your line. I personally don't think it is abuse.

Trust me, Mweb shapes ssl connections. I used astraweb with a ssl connection and they shape it, with all other p2p traffic.

get 4mb uncapped and all you can do is hold thumbs for 1mb

as for pings, different users have different experiences. its up to you if you wanna take the gamble or not. I suggest you read this thread

Yes - they know news.astraweb.com and news.easynews.com are NNTP sites so everything to that site is throttled - shouldnt matter if you use nntp/ssl or even nntp over pop3.

We monitor consistant paterns of behaviour which can constatute abuse, however steam does not fall into this catogary.

Ok while I'm a bit POd about the torrents not working at all, I have come to accept the fact of whats going on!! But why the hell does youtube also have to suffer?? I can't watch videos properly anywhere from 8AM till around 8PM..even then I've been having issues with having to refresh the video just to get it working, this ain't Freeing the WEB at all. What kind of uncapped is that?

Is it possible that MWEB are feeling the effect of the free upgrades to 1MB from the 512kb accounts? My problems with this account have only started happening around the time this upgrade has come into play.

I actually think they did the Free upgrade to get some goodwill in the press. The crap started a few weeks before than already.

That's strange. I've noticed 1 big drop in performance after the first cable break where even after it came back up performance was never the same. Then the second drop recently now in May.

In March I was still fine.

Yes, using SSL to connect to Usenet Servers are considered bypassing of there shaping and its seen as abuse.

Hi guys. I'm currently on 384 uncapped unshaped. I get constant speed of about 30-40kbps. I'm considering upgrading to either 1meg shaped or 4meg shaped. I would like to know the average torrent download speed users are getting. Thanks in advanced.
