Is anyone else's ISP offline? I can't even browse the net and my bro is 140km from me (north west) and his line is also down...

My line seems to be a bit better, the strange thing is if I do 1 trace route after another there are huge differences in the results.

Trc to mweb

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms home.gateway [192.168.0.1]
2 519 ms 348 ms 188 ms 41-132-30-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.30.1]
3 16 ms 18 ms 19 ms tengig-0-0-0-101.vic-ipc-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.134]
4 19 ms 23 ms 22 ms vl-92.vic-hscore-2.mweb.co.za [196.22.189.3]

Trc 2 to mweb

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms home.gateway [192.168.0.1]
2 81 ms 54 ms 27 ms 41-132-30-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.30.1]
3 31 ms 17 ms 22 ms tengig-0-0-0-101.vic-ipc-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.134]
4 21 ms 16 ms 22 ms vl-92.vic-hscore-2.mweb.co.za [196.22.189.3]

They go as low as 19ms on the second hop to as high as 600ms on the second hop. Don't know why its so erratic but its better than it was last night.

*EDIT*

My speeds are excellent though, getting 60kb/s on my 512 line, can see that they have made some changes.

my http downloads and normal browsing is extremely slow since last night why ?
was getting 1.1kbps on a http download :( and browsing (international) was extremely slow as well.

funny enough torrents seem to be good.

Try turning off your router for like 5 min? sometimes it can help... But 1.1kb/s is weird, I'm getting over 50kb/s on my 512 line.

Hi D34M0n7,

Assuming there are no hw/sw issues with your PCs or local LAN/cabling/wireless, there are only 3 possible reasons for this;

1. Some other backround task (e.g. Win Updates etc.) is ustilising your line without your knowledge. As line utilisation goes up so too will your traceroute latencies, thus they only have relevance if performed on a line that is completely idle.

2. Your line (local lead to the DSALM) is having sporadic/temporary issues. This can be tracked by watching the ADSL performance statistics on your router to see if there are any fluctuations e.g. DS snr, line attenuation and the various error counters.

3. There are momentary capacity constraints or other load related issues on your ADSL access path to MWEB i.e. DSLAM to ESR to our IPC links. As mentioned, with the neccessary information this is something we would need to escalate to Telkom.

MWB.

Im having real crappy download speeds on newshost, 0,1-0,5 kbps.
This is after 8 when its supposed to be unshaped, and im using news.mweb.co.za port 119

Crappy Ping

Whats happening with the latency tonight!!!

324ms to JHB

Speeds are slow for me right now too. I'm wondering why I'm even bothering with 4mbps. Might as well go back to 384.

Seriously, i'm getting hacked. This uncapped thing is really starting to grate my tits. First off, things were super... I was getting about 100Kb/s on p2p, then it slowed to 50Kb/s and now its at 30Kb/s. This is during peak hours. Its getting to the point where I go back to 384kbps, and save some money and get stuff a little after I would normally get it. And now, when MWEB knows local is under strain, they launch this DSTV on Demand nonsense. I realise this may not be the correct forum, but hey listen... if I can watch YouTube more streamlined than stuff from the DSTV server than there is a problem. I'm irritated because again an ISP has released a product that cannot keep up with demand, yet people are STILL signing up. So so irritated.

There seems to be a severe bottleneck this evening (300ms latency) between MWeb and all local sites, as shown by the tracert hop where MWeb connects to Telkom.

Code:
Tracing route to saix.net [196.25.1.200]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

   1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
   2 8 ms 8 ms 9 ms 41-132-48-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.48.1]
   3 28 ms 28 ms 28 ms tengig-0-0-0-104.vic-ipc-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.146]
   4 28 ms 30 ms 28 ms vl-92.vic-hscore-2.mweb.co.za [196.22.189.3]
   5 62 ms 70 ms 56 ms tengig-0-0-0-0-12.vic-up-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.241]
   6 318 ms 324 ms 329 ms rrba-ip-hsll-1-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.25.8.249]
   7 377 ms 379 ms 379 ms wblv-ip-essr-1-atm-2-0-0-2.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.43.11.30]
   8 313 ms 313 ms 313 ms saix.net [196.25.1.200]

Trace complete.

International traffic (SEACOM) is not affected by this route, which is why some users can get 400Kbte/sec.

Have to agree with you, my experience has been exactly the same. really frustrated, may as well go back to afriweb and pay R14/gig and get decent speeds

Its early days for uncapped shaped, im sure itll improve in comeing months, for some reason, no isp has it perfect yet

My international speeds are still very good, as of tonight as Gordon pointed out, it looks like there is severe congestion locally on Telkom's network. Great. So clearly they haven't been using the exorbitant installation and line fees we've been paying them over the years to maintain and upgrade their network, but been pocketing it. Anyone shocked?

My international latency is actually half of what I'm getting locally at the moment.

Thats what im getting.... this has been happening since around tuesday i think... kind of makes gaming impossible..

hmm... turned off my router for a moment and it seems to have worked.... not sure for how long though.

getting 62ms to saix, which is higher than average... and 45ms to isgaming.co.za which is also a bit high, usually get around 26ms.

Try turning off your router for like 5 min? sometimes it can help... But 1.1kb/s is weird, I'm getting over 50kb/s on my 512 line.

tried your suggestion last night and http downloads shot back up to around 20kbps great ! BUT torrents shot down from avg 35 to a measly avg of 5kbps if not less :(

i rebooted my router like three times, these speeds are terrible recently.

MWEB whats going on ? afterhours speeds are terrible lately !

Disappointing speeds all week

4mbps line. 4mbps MWEB uncapped.
Downloading 1 torrent, from a fast private tracker. Similar torrent did 400kBps for hours last weekend. Currently doing 40kBps. Been like this since the weekend. resetting router achieves nothing apart from a router reset.
Just tested same torrent on SAIX account, 420kBps.
Back to MWEB 40kBps.
Most annoying thing is that connection attempts to torrent trackers are timing out. On at least 2 different private trackers the highest speed I can achieve on my MWEB account in that case is 0kBps.
Axxess Express+ was terrible but it was never this terrible at 21:49.

It's true; they get what you pay for.
