@nickD
try managing the pppoe connection from your pc rather than your router
If line still drops then its your isp

@william
Click on wan I think, 1492 is correct

And what was the cause? More importantly, what was the solution?

Firstly go to your Network adapter via local area connection, go to properties, go to advanced, make sure task offload is set to off and power saving mode also ( options may vary according to your adapter), another option is to run your downloads in safe mode and use the programs you normally use and see if the problem persists if it does not then eliminate each program and see if any of them are interfering, thirdly and lastly, see if there are any slight bends on your cable linking your router to you computer try straitening it, best bet is to buy a new one. Hope it helps you out. its a very frustrating problem to fix since it randomly cuts out.

All access (local and international) is very laggy at the moment, coming in intermittent bursts. I was getting pings of 25ms and then 600ms to www.dstv.co.za. DNS seems to be particularly slow.

Edit: Acutally, it seems more like the 'dead' connection issue -- absolutely zero throughput on anything for a few minutes, then it all springs back to life:

Code:
$ ping www.dstv.co.za
ping: unknown host www.dstv.co.za
.
.
.
$ ping www.dstv.co.za
PING www.dstv.co.za (196.28.65.142) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 196.28.65.142: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=29.4 ms
64 bytes from 196.28.65.142: icmp_seq=3 ttl=56 time=36.3 ms
64 bytes from [B]CL2www2.m-net.co.za[/B] (196.28.65.142): icmp_seq=4 ttl=56 time=32.9 ms

Seems to be much more stable now, after that last choke. *holds thumbs*

Web pages are taking a long time to start loading, but when they do start, they complete quickly. Is there some lookup issue at the moment?

It also seems to have disappeared for me, lets hope it's gone for good - otherwise we will have to monitor it with a "dead connection" thread!

No sure if anyone else has been contacted by "SwTb0i69" but this user seems to be a spy who is looking for acknowledgement of downloading movies and tv series using Mweb Uncapped accounts.

What a silly guy ! Of course no one here will do something like that! I mean, you wouldn't download a car now would you?

have similar issue of MAX HTTP speeds, then the line drops...i lose my connection.

at least twice a day i have to turn my router on and off to resume my connection.

I've had similar issues recently. It happened twice during the week as well as yesterday.

He contacted me yesterday, I really enjoyed the teenage jargon usage (very authentic):
" hwzit. . Wantd 2knw if u cud help me out . . Do u hav tv series downloaded? "

i don't know if it is just me, but i had some trouble this weekend accessing international websites, i know i wasn't able to access open office and the adobe acrobat site are the ones that spring to mind, but also the Australian project Gutenberg website, but other than that, the internet was flying for me :D (4Meg Mweb Uncapped for those interested)

Yip - ignored it.

So is he really an agent troll then? And if so who is he working for and what does he think he can achieve?

LMAO @ "SwTb0i69" - sweet boy 69 - must be a lord.....

Either it's some really slow gay teenager or well that & someone trying to obtain some useless information.

Why not entertain the messages somehow, like say "I downloads (TVs & Series) them from the box in my dads lounge straight into my head" ;)

Well, judging by the education level at the SABC it would not surprise me if this is a legit SABC employee trying to obtain some new series so that they can broadcast it.

You should also hang your router from a hook in the ceiling to help the data flow downhill.

Probably just someone who doesn't want to pay for their own internet connection.
