guys I am telling you, this is not Seacom ATM, it is Mweb, the Call centre guy who seemed to know what was going on, told me they are tweaking their shaping.
If it was Seacom then how come HTTP is fine?

Good point.

@Nerz you asked do people still use emule..duh yeah! Like 50 Million daily. A strong second to Bittorrent with 150 Million..so ja, the files are out there..:)

Mine seems alright for the past 2 hours or so. Even torrents going at 160Kb/s now, so it seems to be correcting now.

they always blaming Seacom, yet my Unshaped account is 100% unless there unshaped accounts are running of a differant cercuit, getting max speeds constant all day every hour no issues. so it would seem they busy shaping this product to hell, to kill of users for there more premium packages.

I could be wrong. just my input on this matter.

1) Technical support/Call Center guys seldom know the full picture of what's going on at a technical level, this is a universal truth. They are front-lines, they're supposed to help with simple issues and move users on.

2) M-Web has already established via multiple channels that there is a fault with their international connectivity, whether this is the SEACOM link itself or something further downstream is (I suppose in the end) irrelevant because to M-Web it originates from the SEACOM network. You're now claiming that they're for some reason "lying"... but how is (as you are claiming) a long-term change such as QoS going to be covered by a short-term lie (SEACOM is broken). It makes no sense. I call FUD on this one.

3) You clearly understand nothing about how quality of service/shaping works. If I have a QoS rule that says HTTP is top priority and P2P is lowest priority, then losing a significant chunk of international bandwidth will result in P2P being dropped FIRST, with HTTP only being dropped LAST, that is why despite having a problem with connectivity HTTP continues to work well (not 100%) and P2P at the moment sucks - this is exactly how QoS works during high consumption periods. It's possible however, that they have had to tweak P2P down more aggressively in this time of crisis to ensure "normal" traffic (ie. HTTP) isn't slow.

See #3 above. Yes, as far as their QoS systems see it, the unshaped/business accounts ARE running on a different circuit (even if the physical circuit is actually the same as the end users). ALL business account traffic is prioritized above the end-user accounts, including P2P, which mean that these accounts get first bite of the bandwidth pie, with what remains going to the rest of us. As such, these accounts won't be as affected by the reduced bandwidth.

So what do we do as a community now? Seems that we should stand together on this and do something, they seem to be lying to us about it being Seacom

I think what YOU can do is first get your facts straight before foaming at the mouth. No-one is lying here.

I don't know who is lying and who is telling the truth ... all I know is when I connect to my AXXESS account my torrent and newsgroup downloads are flying but on my mweb account I am lucky to get 10 kb/s.

Same torrent - I know it depends on other seeders.

4mb adsl line with 4mb uncapped shaped account

Tharaxis PO I I took the time and spent 40 minutes on the phone with mweb maybe either way mweb ARE lyibg to us- wake up - they said its Seacom which clearly it isnt

it is not seacom!! Afrihost is going fine atm, they also use seacom, so its definately MWEB. If this continues they are going to loose a;ot of people!!

This is not lekke, I am moving my account... I am fed-up with MWEB.. Supposedly the best in the market, I had my doubts but now am sure of it... They are not. BAD service...

Just got a test account from OpenWeb and YES, it is great so far... will test it for the remainder of the day and see where it goes.

All that I know that if this continues for another week I can just as well cancel. Can surf and browse for cheaper as per previous comments.

Wow, so you are saying that all front line staff know nothing? It was a 30 minute or 40 minute call and he was speaking to his managers or supervisors about it. You were not involved in the call so why not keep your opinion to yourself?

Funny that MWEB is the ONLY one on Seacom having this problem.

Now you know how much I know as well? Are you psychic?

Tell me do you work for Mweb? Why is it that Mweb are the ONLY ones having this issue? Please enlighten me as I clearly dont understand what is going on

MWEB is full of Sh*t. this is not the first weekend they pull this "supposed" seacom problem. If this continues, i will also look else where
