Hey guys,

I am at odds choosing my next ISP after cybersmart giving me the boot from their uncapped offer. :(
Planning to go the 4mb route with either MWEB or Afrihost. I cant really compare the forums as it has people that are having good and bad speeds on both...

I mostly want it to download the latest anime, and i use rapidshare for that. How is mwebs speeds with rapidshare premium? (during and after office hours)

going to shoot yourself in the foot going afrihost. it's either imagineIPS who sells true IS uncapped (and not purchase per gig and sell off as uncapped with draconian throttling) or mweb who does their own uncapped thing.

MWEB throttles RapidShyte very much. It tops nowadays about 50KB/sec although late at night it goes >300-440KB/sec.

What speeds are you getting on international news servers with ImagineIPS? They seem to just resell IS uncapped accounts like any other ISP (Afrihost, Axxess etc.) does so not sure how you come to your conclusion about their offering? Their website also states it's a shaped account.

I decided to downgrade my 4meg line to 512, got myself the mweb uncapped 512 as well. now with my 4meg line I use to get 3.6mb download, I thought with a 512 i should get 380kb download at least. the maximum I am getting is 20kb download and 15kb upload. Phoned telkom and they said it is normal for a 512 line. My torrents download at a max of 12kb.

does this seem about right? I used my afrihost account as well and got the same speeds, so not just mweb

any advice?

Wait you downgraded from 4MB to 512K and you wondering why your downloads are slower? Most you will probably ever get from 512K is about 45-60KB/S download speeds.

20kBps would be about right on a shaped line but 20kbps would not. Telkom confusing kBps and kbps (kilobytes vs kilobits)...
 
I dunno but real life works insane :D

Interwebs is feeling awesome this morning, pulled 9gb last night. Ahhhhhhhhhhh the joys of mweb uncapped :D. Hopefully seacom is now sorted.

Chris do you get those speed after 23:00 as well or just during the day?

That's not helpful killa.. But I agree, despite the downtime and shaping/throttling this is a very usable product!!! I'm trying to convince my business partner to get Mweb's 4mb uncapped at home. His wife is a 2nd life addict so if it doesn't work for her both of us will be in the proverbial pooh...
 
I am not really sure how second life works though but most people game fine on the account.

Can't see why there would be a problem but then i have no idea how 2nd life works. Is it a game? do have a character that is modeled on the pc or what?

yes was like that for the whole night, i tested the speed on my ps3 as well and got 420 download and 380 upload, online gaming was fine with no problems.

Torrents go max at 10kb even after 11h00. it is the shaped line

Me neither. But yes I would imagine it works on the same principles as online gaming...

I use Second Life a lot on my MWEB 4Mbps account, and it works like a dream for me most of the time. Latency is usually shown as 300-600ms, but at times spikes over 600ms, so bear that in mind.
 
Hotfile has been dead lately anyone else have the same issue?

Use to get 400KB/s - 450KB/s

Getting 20KB/s - 30KB/s

Whats up MWEB?
