I got home. Plugged laptop in. Ate supper. Came down and torrents were going at 30kB/s for the last 25min. I take one look at the forum and see people complaining about speed, look at my torrent again...3kB/s. Stayed like that for a while now...

4Mb line going at 100 to 150kb/s. This is not torrents, but normal downloads from Apple.com or the like for phone firmwares. Have to use a download manager as iTunes can't finish downloading more than 10% before it fails with a disconnect.

Oh well, if this doesn't work then I will just have to cancel them.

As a test just switched over to WirelessG - get my full 4Mbps connection via NNTP, back to Mweb....30Kbps

Surely these problems can't be from moving people from saix back to Mweb? What's going on??

Something is definitely not kosher with MWeb tonight...

Check the latency increase between my 3rd & 4th hop, which used to be barely noticeable.
Code:
traceroute www.take2.co.za
traceroute to www.take2.co.za (196.33.12.47), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
 1 192.168.91.1 (192.168.91.1) 1.920 ms 1.913 ms 1.851 ms
 2 adsl.tuis (192.168.89.1) 3.030 ms 3.869 ms 3.863 ms
 3 41-132-44-1.dsl.mweb.co.za (41.132.44.1) 27.954 ms 37.959 ms 47.784 ms
 4 tengig-0-0-0-104.vic-ipc-1.mweb.co.za (196.22.169.146) 169.308 ms 178.367 ms 191.468 ms
 5 vl-92.vic-hscore-1.mweb.co.za (196.22.189.2) 225.936 ms 235.744 ms
...

I've had a few disconnects on my IRC tonight as well, where I usually have none.

It's probably capacity problems again. They will tell us they are buying more bandwith in 4 months, and we will need to hang on till then. In 4 months, same thing. It seems they just dangling a carrot to keep us hoping things will get better :(

Yup, something is very wrong with latency again tonight:

Code:
tracert www.mweb.co.za

Tracing route to www.mweb.co.za [196.2.63.110]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
  2 10 ms 10 ms 11 ms 41-132-70-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.70.1]
  3 122 ms 125 ms 125 ms tengig-0-0-0-100.vic-ipc-2.mweb.co.za [196.22.16
3.206] <------------- Here's the problem
  4 136 ms 140 ms 137 ms 196.22.189.28
  5 156 ms 154 ms 155 ms 196.22.169.90
  6 124 ms 119 ms 121 ms 196.41.144.36
  7 164 ms 167 ms 173 ms www.mweb.co.za [196.2.63.110]

Trace complete.

Ok so, half of the internetz is not working decently for half the month. How about we get half a refund? Because your so called network upgrades are affecting us now and we're paying our hard earned money for a product that works 50/50. Some people might argue it's 70/30 or worse.

Hi everyone, we are having some technical difficulties on our Cape Town network, traffic is being rerouted while we resolve the issue.

Why is it that MWeb always has so many "issues". The other ISP's seem to be coping quite well without all these hiccups.

Maybe because other ISP's don't have their own tier 1 network to contend with? They rely on their provider ie: SAIX, IS to sort out those issues?

I work for an ISP, we have enough of our own problems to deal with WITHOUT being a Tier 1 like Mweb is. Cut them a little slack...

Well customers are not seeing the problems, which is the whole point. Mweb just seems to have a problem far too often.

The speeds this past week have been pretty pathetic but in the same breath I have to acknowledge that for the month prior to that they were nothing short of sublime.
Hopefully MWEB will have this sorted out shortly......

I don't know about you guys, but when I left my house this morning @ 07:30, my DL's were running @ full speed. That's unusual for MWEB. The speed gradually increasing since 02:00 this morning and hit full speed @ 06:00. I will check again tonight when I get home.

I hope this means that they sorted out the problems we have been experiencing of late.

I must say, today has also been good to me :) perhaps we're on the MWEB network now?

Unfortunately my news server access is still sitting on 0 kB/s. I hope they get things sorted soon, not even getting the 8 kB/s anymore :(
I'm guessing the "new" Cape Town glitch has something to do with it, but I can't help suspecting someone working for a certain monopoly was instructed to drop his spanner somewhere

:(

Come on Telkom upgrade my exchange or SOMETHING.

Not just you, although 1000ms ping does seem rather extreme.

I'm getting congestion on the SEACOM link to Europe (BBC spiked at 450ms just now). Seems to happen most evenings, but vary from minute to minute.

Hopefully this will be sorted out when MWeb adds more international capacity (1 Oct?)
