Had a problem with MWeb connection, called their tech department yesterday, was put on with some dude who had no idea of the difference between http and news server downloads, though to his credit, he did admit that it was out of his depth. I asked for a more knowledgeable technician, but was told that they were all busy, but if I left a number, they would DEFINITELY get back to me. Then called today, was told that yes, there was a note to be called on my account, that it would happen today DEFINITELY. Still no call.

Hi Randhir

Please PM me your MWEB details and I will follow up.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

Hi, sent this morning.

Well, despite my calls to Mweb, and two PM's to Mweb Operations, no courtesy of even a reply. I was giving it a while because I thought they were busy with their network upgrade, but when I see random messages to other users but not even a PM to say "We're looking into it", you have to wonder. That's good customer service for you.

@Randhir

I'm really sorry to hear that we didn't respond to you, I can assure you it was not intentional. Our specialist callbacks are usually scheduled - when you were promised a callback yesterday you should have been given a reference number and a time the call was scheduled for. Please PM me the number you were calling from and I'll look into this.

In the meantime what is the problem that you are experiencing?

Kind Regards
Will

Its going to be like this until Tuesday or Wednesday because they are on weekend. They are not working on it and since some people can connect at 40kb/s on their 4mbps lines its good enough for them to not care.

@Rouxenator I'm really sorry to hear that you feel that way.

We certainly do care and a massive amount of effort has gone into getting these upgrades completed as fast as possible.

The local bandwidth upgrades are complete, barring some teething issues which were outside of our control that the networks team are doing their utmost to resolve.

We are increasing our international capacity by a substantial amount and we again will be pulling out all the stops to get this work completed hopefully by next weekend.

Believe me if there was anything else within our power that we could be doing right this minute to increase the speed of your downloads, we would be doing it.

Kind Regards
Will

while i want to rant about paying for a service and then not getting it, i'd also like to see mweb sort these things out so we neva have to go back to the darkness of capped internet ever again.

Wow what a great time to join Mweb. Got fed up with Afrihost and going at 3kb/s........joined Mweb yesterday and its officially 100% slower!! What the heck? Hope this gets sorted otherwise I might have to hook up my 1995 modem and jam some dial-up.

I've noticed my connection speed has dropped from 400KB/s (last month!) to 200KB/s this month, as a matter of fact, as the 1st October started at 12, my downloads dropped to 200KB/s and have stayed there, no matter if the item is local, international, cached or uncached.

Anyone else notice this?

I'm a 8MB user (but get max speed of 400KB/s) with no problems till 1st October 2010.

It has become unbearable on the mweb uncapped network.

I'm on a 4mb uncapped and my connection to the news servers have dropped from the previous 450kb to between 40kb ~ 100kb!!!
Sometimes the speeds sit between 20kb and 40kb!!!
I'm just wondering if this is a temporary thing or is this the type of service we can now expect from mweb uncapped.

PS: The slow speeds are 24 hours and not just during business hours.

I'm no expert but if I had to take a stab at what's going on behind the Mweb er, curtain there is no immediate resolution to the problems mentioned above without compromising the service provided to business product premium paying subcribers. The promised increase in overall speed will arrive if everything goes according to shedule next week and a large percentage of the problems mentioned here will vacate the forums as members again enjoy the speeds seen before the mass arrival of customers (includes self) on the uncapped bandwagon.

I doubt they (MWeb)will have much more to say on the topic until the upgrade time is confirmed or process completed. Standard service issues yes, slow P2P, HTTP, NNTP traffic no..

It would seem that many other ISP's are suffering a similar fate which would tend to point a rather weighted finger at a lack of timeously procured redundancy across the board to match the demand of super-affordable broadband offerings..

Just my take on it, we'll see. Credit where it's due, I only have praise for their helpline and technical assistance.

Look, personally, I won't 'cry' about getting 200KB/s - it's better than 100KB/s but still, just wanted to mention it so people can see whose having what.
