Paid newservers are not the be all and end all.

I honestly dont think it matters as MWEB are shaping the hell out of the protocol.

I havent had acceptable speeds once this year... 11 months to go...

You are correct, on an unshaped account though it works brilliantly. The only advantage you with a paid news server on a shaped account is that it is more reliable and offers a better service than our local ISP news servers. So when the shaping let's up at least you know you will be able to download something, as appose to hope that you can download something.

Very true man!!!

I (as most it seems) am getting fed up with the MWEB offering, it's been getting worse and worse and is approaching disgusting standards at this point... I understand peak shaping and all the rest of it but I have seen download speeds of 5kbps after midnight, that is just abysmal IMO.

I don't mind spending extra money (within reason) but the problem is, where do you go??

Openweb Gold costs a bit more, but you'll get much better speeds.

I imagined that to be the case as well. I organised a trial account from them in December and I actually had WORSE speeds than my MWEB account. I was on VB and when I asked about poor newserver performance they advised I use downstorm so....

Good Afternoon everyone

Please note that we are experiencing a problem with one of our Southern IPC links (affecting Western and Eastern Cape customers) The faulty link has been taken off line while engineers attend to the matter. This will most likely result in some customers experiencing reduced speeds, on low priority traffic particularly.

Kind Regards
Will

yeah i was hoping with astraweb to get full speed after 12am and weekends, so during day http , and then start it after 12, il see how it goes tonight

Thanks for heads up!

where are the days we got 100KB/s during office hours? ...... ahhh the good old days.

Still geting lots of jitter.

my brother is blaming me by telling me it's a virus on my PC but i havn't downloaded anything for over a month (except LoL)

I noticed the more stuff we had on (anti-virus,xfire etc) the more the jitter would be.i never had this problem in the past even with a few internet based applications running.

You could (and should) be 100% sure by installing a bandwidth monitor on your PCs, such as Netlimiter.

Something wrong with my connection. I always get this error message - "Connection has timed out..." whenever I try to visit a site (mybroadband too). If I keep refreshing, it works,

Thanks for the info. Service keeps going up and down. Will switch to backup until fixed.

Hi Kitty09

We are experiencing an issue with one of our four Southern IPC links (affecting Western and Eastern Cape customers) This link has been taken off line while engineers attend to the matter. This will result in some customers experiencing reduced speeds, on low priority traffic.

Kind regards
