Hmmm wondering if 38GB is enough to enforce the AU policy thing and throttle the hell out of me?? I've gone a bit haywire with steam releases this month... and before I got to back-up everything my HDD crashed and I had to redownload a couple of things. So I'm on 38GB for this month.

But now, I'm trying to update windows (IE9 has been downloading for a hour now...), download drivers and the best I'm getting is 30kbps on a 4meg R1000pm upcapped line....

Not cool mweb.

Not cool mweb.

And then you start using Netflix along with your two teenagers... what then ? 38G is nothing in the real world.

Why then, if I download a DRIVER from the NVidia website do I as a 4096 (2048 synch)
Get 15KB/sec ?
This is over a "most commonly used internet service" as you call it
>>> HTTP.
Why the slowdown ?

Unless 2048/8 (minus overhead IP transit) = 15KB/sec

You've checked that nothing/no-one else is using the line (Aunt Mabel on her laptop in the lounge or a Windows update on the old laptop you left on) and that the file comes down at full speed on a non-MWEB account?

One thing I am still not happy with right now is the performance of the MWEB news server, which has been unresponsive to the increased priority we have assigned to the traffic so we are now looking elsewhere for the problem. I will keep you guys posted on progress in this area and I can assure you it is getting a lot of attention.

not an expert on this area , but maybe isnt it a limitation on delegate's side to handle that many requests? if so multiple instances might help.
ignore if im missing something, lol

*update : http international downloads running at +- 180KB/s

OMG just checked my downloads for the day - 0 - 10Kbps all day since 8am when the shaping was turned on. :(

Currently sitting at a whole 1Kbps.

...starts to dig in the cupboard for my dialup modem which will be faster!

getting really slow http downloads even with a manager anyone else...100kps on 4mb

My news server is working, using mweb news on a shaped account. Actually, its running full speed atm. Im in PE going through the CPT side of things. news.mweb.co.za port 119.
Started going full speed from 6pm. More acceptable then going at 10kb/s till 12 then kicking in to full speed. After business hours the speeds should increase which it is doing now, it has not for the past few weeks thou, happy about this performance and hope it stays.

Will, did the network team do something to improve the speeds at about 6ish?

No. all the cape town users got disconnected from news servers

@MWEB, I have a 4Mbps uncapped MWEB account.

I've noticed that my 4Mbps ADSL (sync at 4Mbps, capable of 7.2Mbps) is fast (3.6Mbps) in the mornings and slow (0.2Mbps) in the afternoon/evenings.

I thought it was MWEB shaping, so I tried WebAfica (1GB, unshaped), FNBConnect (free 1GB) and a private company service.
They all exhibit the same problem, fast (3.6Mbps) in the mornings and slow (0.2Mbps) in the afternoon/evenings.

I suspect that the Telkom DSLAM/exchange is out of capacity.

Is there any way to conclusively prove that Telkom's infrastructure has a problem?
Is there a test that I can perform or ask to have done to pin-point the problem.

traceroute does not show the in between ATM/MPLS network.

Any advice would be welcome.

Hi system32

Please PM me your details and I will have a look at your line readings from my side.

Kind regards
MWEB Guy

Single PC connected.
As it stands now, browsing some group pictures on Facebook -Max throughput = 5.0 K
