MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

So I just got upgraded to 1024 from 384K all inclusive uncapped.YAYYYY (After a small fight with telkom and MWEB of course). I was curious as to how much of a difference there was between my old and new accounts(perceived and actual)..I downloaded a few small (3MEG) files and I wasn't too impressed but thinking I had my expectation a bit too high I tried to stream some low quality clips from youtube. Epic fail as it seemed to buffer even more than my 384k line did about a month ago. Did a few speedtests and I get a whopping 38kbs..which is about 4kbs faster than my 384k line based on my speedtest history. Tried the speedtest with my afrihost and openweb account and i get 100kbs and 106kbs respectively. Max http downloads of 40kbs on a 1 Meg line?? I have read through all of the last 600 posts in this thread and about a dozen other threads all complaining about the exact same thing and I refuse to just sit back and complain complain complain..I work too hard for my money to be short changed. The perception has been that MWEB has been really innovative and forward thinking in their business model and kudus to them for creating that perception both justified or unjustified. BUT its time for them to step up to the plate and a) own up b) educate c) bury their heads in the sand.
a) Own up and admit there is a problem but let us know that you are working on it and provide regular feedback, not regurgitated bollocks.
b) Educate- Let us know in no uncertain terms what the shaping policy of the uncapped accounts would mean to us functionally. ie what can we realistically expect per protocol in terms of usage/bandwith/timing etc. Some sort of baseline word be great without trying to shot yourself in the foot. If you are comfortable with your product and technologies then it shouldn't be a prob.
c) Stick your head in the sand..Enough said

I will use this account for exactly one month..no improvements = no R600.00 to mweb. (less Telkom of course :))
I will start a petition thread for all mweb uncapped subscribers called "Mweb, yes you can (Or we wont)" for any mweb subscribers who are presently unhappy with speeds at the moment. Essentially a petition for voicing our grievances and a ultimatum to sort it out or we vote with our wallets. No long posts on the thread..just put down your name or simply say "Me too"..you get the drift

Meh MU 384k line shaped to 10 KB/s with spikes up to 25 KB/s every few seconds. RS fairing slightly better but by no means 'golden hours' speed.

Just checking on cancellations, is it 20 days notice or one months notice? Don't want to be charged for the extra month I don't want.

whoa. 7AM and I'm gettting decent speeds streaming from gomtv.net.

so its possible after all! Why is it not possible at 7PM at night WHEN I CAN ACTUALLY USE IT?

day 5(or is it 6) of waiting for a mweb representitive to contact me regarding service cancellation

REF# 20110605001877

Please let me cancel :(

WOWZA and they said I was a moaner at Iburst, but Mweb I have to agree your streaming was kinda crappy last night :) had to buffer every 5 seconds. But speeds were flying again when I woke up this morning

For me on Fridays and Saturdays I normally get better speed on downloads etc (just not gaming) The rest of the week is always slow till about 1am or 2am.

Once again thanks again Mweb for the fast response to us nagging customers. Lets hope this problem is resolved for good now.

The cure for piracy is readily available fresh content online.

I haven't pirated one game since getting steam. Yet since we don't have netflix here I still have to pirate series.

Wow, this is so true. Same for me. Used to pirate almost everything now I'm just down to pirating movies. A cheap, stable and reliable streaming experience would definitely swing me away from movie piracy as well.

I can see that there is a build up of frustration in this thread again, can I respectfully ask that those having problems provide us with some technical detail of the problems they're having.

I'm aware that some of you are unhappy with the nntp experience - I am monitoring this closely myself and engaging with our engineers to see what can be improved. i did see for myself that during the day yesterday connections to both MWEB News and AstraWeb tapered off to 0 so this is noted and I will try and get something to change here. However has I explained at length the other night this is not a straight forward fix and anything we change here needs to be carefully considered as whatever we give to nntp will have to be taken from somewhere else. Last night though from about 22h00 onwards Astraweb was flying and was still getting good speeds when I left home this morning and before someone says this again I can assure you that I am on the same shaping as the rest of you. I have access to the backend systems and I monitor my own connection so that I can get an external view of the performance on whatever I'm testing at the time.

Other than nntp related complaints, what problems are currently still being experienced? I've noted some video streams being mentioned? Please provide me with detail as to the sites and times of day the problems are experienced so we can replicate and examine the traffic.

I've also noted some of you mentioning high latency in the evenings, please provide command line traces and pings in these cases to MWEB Guy that were taken when you are experiencing the problem. Localized latency problems are generally line or congestion related, if there was an increase in latency on our side it would be experienced by all customers, not in isolated pockets, that's the nature of a centralized network architecture.

I'd also like to just clear up a point regarding cancellation requests made in this space. I completely understand the frustration being expressed here and I am doing everything I can to address your concerns.

It really pains me to see that some of you want to cancel, but obviously every customer is entitled to make this decision if they feel that the product is simply not suited to their needs. I will not however respond to requests to send people cancellation forms on this forum, that is not why we are here. We do have a retention team who manage all such requests so if you are serious about going through with the process please call the contact center and you will be put through to them for assistance.

Kind Regards
Will

Are you sure MWeb have actually upgraded your account?
I also got upgraded this week & Telkom did the upgrade so I was syncing at 1024 but MWeb didn't know that yet so I had to call & request them to upgrade me

Will - at least you experienced the same thing that everyone else did - the 0Kbps during the day. If this gets sorted out when we will all be a lot happier.

Last night though from about 22h00 onwards Astraweb was flying and was still getting good speeds

I was also experiencing good speeds. During this week I normally only hit good speeds from 2am -4am until 8am and last night it was from around 23:00 so things are looking up.

From my side its def looking a lot better - on Mon/Tue/Wed is was really shocking.
Hopefully things carry on working fine today as well and we don't hit the 0Kbps problem....but so far so good.
