sabnzbd giving me connection errors "Failed to connect: (10053, 'Software caused connection abort') [email protected]"
So i thought I'd do a test, loaded openvpn and suddenly everything connected again. Either my logic is wrong or it's a clear sign my nntp is being blocked.

Would be nice to get some answers

Funy how they told me once they give you a 15min reply time on all the social media including this and no word from mweb guy here. I'm just laughing when my service works the moment I move over to another isp. Tell you what we all move over to something like openweb gold. They will be happy to get our money.

well, they dont care, they have a lot of customers so if one or two or a thousand leave, there's still many left. thats their thought! the cpa is just another joke, like asa...

So true. I think we must all just move over to openweb finish and klaar.

I really dont understand. I raid in World of Warcraft perfectly the whole evening. All of a sudden at 21:40 I start getting horrible spike lag and I cant raid anymore. Please help me to figure out what is causing this. It is really damn irritating.

Ping statistics for 41.132.12.1:
Packets: Sent = 700, Received = 698, Lost = 2 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 9ms, Maximum = 196ms, Average = 16ms

My first hop.

I had this exact thing with my Mweb 1Mbps uncapped account tonight. Like the video would buffer/download completely, but it is corrupted to such an extent that not even VLC can play it. The built in YouTube player only shows a black screen.

So I switched over to my Afrihost account and now it's downloading & playing just fine.

This was really the first time I've had an issue like this. The video I tried to play was Ard Matthews ruins the SA National Anthem.

i watched it as well was fine here though , and should have been cached as well for other users.

mweb uncapped VS openweb Standard Uncapped

Anyone please care to rate. Especially now that mweb is blocking torrent downloads.

Can hardly even browse tonight, suppose I can forget about WOW.... Torrents 0-1kbps....

@Mwebguy, @Will, no responses guys? Thats really terrible service and not what I or other mybb'er have expected from normally vocal reps.

I really just dont understand this. I have a perfect connection for 2 hours and 40 minutes, then all of a sudden I am unable to play due to horrible lag spikes? How the hell is this happening? I consider myself quite knowledgable on matters concerning networking but this really has me stumped. Its been happening for almost 2 weeks now. Perfect for a few hours, then unplayable. It makes no sense. I am going crazy here.

Just like last night ... it's 11.30pm and Fileserve comes to life ... yet MWeb say they have changed nothing!

Can we have a comment please Mweb?? This is not shaping. This is throttling.

they didn't change anything. maybe they ment they didn't change anything since the change when the outage happened. maybe they need to change it then so that is like they had it before the outage.

MwebGuy and Will although does work at Mweb I suspect they are not official support assigned to the Mybroadband Forum.
The two guys just respond to questions they feel they can answer when they are online.

I am guessing that they are not openly discussing network statuses and problems on the forum for fear of scaring of new potential clients. Since when a person is looking for a new ISP and you google them and only find negative comments and network problems they will never get any new clients. The media will also use responses as empirical evidence to say which network is better or with fewer problems.

If you want support you should call Mweb call centers.

I also think that they (MwebGuy and Will) should rather not provide support on this forum unless it's an on duty 24/7 activity that provides and logs support with a ticket number. It's unfair to judge Mweb support from two employees that just try and be helpfull on a forum when it's not their assigned job.

Personal I would want Mweb to develop a online support ticketing system. Why in this day and age would any one want to call people when all you get is people putting you on hold because you mad and slightly rude in responses because of their network. Using a ticketing support system your questions gets answers or an issue resolved and no one get angry at anyone.

Any high volume network is going to have performance issues. And complaining about p2p speeds (which mostly is illegal downloads) would not be addressed anyway as they want to reserve traffic capacity for legitimate activities (e.g. youtube, steam, browsing and direct downloads). Yes, you can get legitimate activity on p2p but the majority abuse that channel because is so easy to share illegal software on it. I also download stuff so when p2p is throttled I don't really care.

I do however feel they should improve performance and capacity for legitimate activities from 5 - 10 as peak traffic which is a problem at the moment.

Torrent speeds last night were MUCH better than Tues night and Mon night. Something definitely changed (for the better) in MWeb-land.

Actually they have been far more helpful than their call centre in most cases and have helped customers with many issues. Also they are the official reps, note their avatars and titles as defined by RPM.

The point of a forum is discussion and here it can be seen that the problem is not just down to an individual but is experianced by many customers of the service. Mweb took a very good step forward by embracing social media last year and responding to the customers on public platforms: twitter, facebook, myBB. But as anyone can tell you, it is certainly not a recomended practice to just clam up when customers are clamouring about issues. Feedback about the problem, steps attempting to resolve, all would be appreciated and would be understood by most but silence does not benfit anyone.

@Mwebguy, @Will, to describe further behaviour for you:

Steam

If previously connected, it will remain open and the browser within the aplication will work however unable to start any game that requires an authentication connection via steam and a restart of steam shows that the steam service cannot connect anymore.

Eve

Able to login, access the character screen, all of which is port 80 web traffic. As soon as the client attempts to load the actual game engine or environment, the game crashes out due to no traffic.

BF:BC2

Login works initialy, can browse servers, join server but during gameplay sudden disconnect with message contact lost to EA as well as many messages of not being able to contact EA for servers/account. This problem was prevalent over the weekend.

From the cases above, it appears that port 80 traffic is working fine but other traffic is throttled to zero, not shaped or slightly throttled but actually denied. Now the strange thing is, the problem disappears and re-appears. I know for yesterday, I could not access steam or Eve from about 8pm. Round about 11:45pm, suddenly everything began working again. The previous day, was a similar story. At times during the weekend, I would remain connected but web traffic would be severely degraded.

Kosmik, I've had no issues last night with steam at all. connected, auth, downloaded everything was fine. Suppose you tried the "all-in-one" fix? (blob removal and or different steam node)

imho:

A) Eve has shaper issues like I had with Champions online. They had to fix the route and or the shaper itself as I couldn't connect either with it, but fine with for example WA.

B) Have to try and see if something up with my BFBC2 as well tonight, however could be same issue as described in A.

Called Mweb support last night and they explained that because of the seacom link being down couple of weeks back, they running low on bandwith (seems like they being rationed by seacom). They waiting on bandwith allocation from Seacom which could happen in the next week or so.They is why they shaping more heavily than normal. Now I don't know how true this is but a rep told me this when i called technical support.

My understanding was that SEACOM was down for an hour only and then the connection was fully restored. How does this mean that they are now "low on bandwidth"?

I too have been getting an Extremely bad experience with MWEB and surfing and online gaming on PS3
as mentioned before I too have been made aware that MWEB implemented new protocols that dont allow for many streams ie.. PS3 gaming and Youtube, Fileshare, Newshosting

I was told by a Support Tech (Lisa) that users were experiencing it on Afrihost as well, and I can confirm that is not the case as my Afrihost account worked perfectly
So do what changed in the last 2 weeks cos unless reversed you MWEB will lose alot of clients

btw @MWEBGuy my online experience is way to sparatic on surfing every single surf is (Cache Error or extremely long Loading time into Timeouts) also I have been unable to play online this entire week with my MWEB account, and no there is nothing wrong with my line, I have restarted my router, I have switched it off (12hrs), I have asked Telkom to reset my ports and yes MWEB has reset/reauthorised my account still no-online gaming and surfing and downloading are up and down

Hi Jinkira,

I would like to look further into this from our side, please PM me your MWEB account details in order for me to do so.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Is Mweb now blocking port 22 incoming as well? Or having huge networking issues in cape town?

Hi jeanres,

I have checked and there are no networking issues at the moment. We also don't block any ports.

Regards,
MWEB Guy
