MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

MWEB used the Seacom down time last Tuesday to put in much harsher filters, so they could use the down time as cover for this.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are actually buying less bandwidth from Seacom now, hence the harsher filters.

MWEB is the best at making excuses. Tehy are the king of lyers. I swear if there was a price for lying MWEB is on top. I think we must make a petition and just cancel mweb. if we stand together mweb will see we as gamers and downloaders can go somewhere else. The agents are so useless all they ever say is nothing changed but the people working with shaping devices have done something. Even our business line is shaped and I'm getting sick and tired of it.

Please can you put the network back the way it where before the outage. I will wait till after this weekend cause hey have upgrade planned for this weekend. We recieved an update via premier department. I also see that my ping in gaming is better when there is less shaping.

They say you get less shape when internet is not so busy so explain people downloading torrents at high speed during night. Doesn't that put stress on the netwrk and won't shaping apply. Stop lying cause We will cancel and you will regret it for the rest of your life. And please stop blaming the client we are not total idiots and you guys must grow up cause if we go to another isp everything is fine so how do you explain that. Oh sh*t you can't i forgot monkeys are not clever. This is a free forum and we can lift our opinions.

I would like to say after the change in the weekend I will see if it's still bad I will have to move to openweb gold. At least I can play games then. MWEB don't care about customer service or do you even know what it is. What I learned when working for Eskom is that you find out from everyone even the service providers if something has changed and just don't go and say it's working fine. I phoned the people working with the router directly and find out if changes has been logged etc etc before saying everythng is fine.

MwebGuy and Will although does work at Mweb I suspect they are not official support assigned to the Mybroadband Forum.
The two guys just respond to questions they feel they can answer when they are online.

I am guessing that they are not openly discussing network statuses and problems on the forum for fear of scaring of new potential clients. Since when a person is looking for a new ISP and you google them and only find negative comments and network problems they will never get any new clients. The media will also use responses as empirical evidence to say which network is better or with fewer problems.

If you want support you should call Mweb call centers.

I also think that they (MwebGuy and Will) should rather not provide support on this forum unless it's an on duty 24/7 activity that provides and logs support with a ticket number. It's unfair to judge Mweb support from two employees that just try and be helpfull on a forum when it's not their assigned job.

Personal I would want Mweb to develop a online support ticketing system. Why in this day and age would any one want to call people when all you get is people putting you on hold because you mad and slightly rude in responses because of their network. Using a ticketing support system your questions gets answers or an issue resolved and no one get angry at anyone.

Any high volume network is going to have performance issues. And complaining about p2p speeds (which mostly is illegal downloads) would not be addressed anyway as they want to reserve traffic capacity for legitimate activities (e.g. youtube, steam, browsing and direct downloads). Yes, you can get legitimate activity on p2p but the majority abuse that channel because is so easy to share illegal software on it. I also download stuff so when p2p is throttled I don't really care.

I do however feel they should improve performance and capacity for legitimate activities from 5 - 10 as peak traffic which is a problem at the moment.

Maybe it are only the downloaders/abusers complaining..

Kosmik, I've had no issues last night with steam at all. connected, auth, downloaded everything was fine. Suppose you tried the "all-in-one" fix? (blob removal and or different steam node)

imho:

A) Eve has shaper issues like I had with Champions online. They had to fix the route and or the shaper itself as I couldn't connect either with it, but fine with for example WA.

B) Have to try and see if something up with my BFBC2 as well tonight, however could be same issue as described in A.

Hey Prophet, the thing is, I've been a customer of theres for over a year, with regular access to steam, eve and bfbc2. I've only had issues since Saturday but the last two nights, I've had problems specifically between 5pm and 11pm/12am where any non port 80 traffic has died. The problem is that it only exists right then, as of 12am, everything is back to normal but I really don't want to go a 3rd night, where I can't unwind between that time period on games. If it is a shaper issue then Mweb must correct it but at the moment we can't even get them to acknowledge that a problem exists.

I don't consider gaming traffic or connections abuse, yes?

@Topdawg and other questioning changes / bandwidth upgrades Let me just clarify a few points:

Firstly regarding the Seacom problem that occurred recently, that was an isolated incident related to a Seacom link failure - if I recall correctly between Marseilles and Mumbai. There is no ongoing problem related to this and service was restored in just over an hour.

Regarding queries raised here regarding file sharing sites and degraded p2p experiences. We have noted and investigated these queries and there is no configuration problem causing these experiences. P2P traffic does have the lowest priority and the p2p experience will deteriorate during peak hours and when network load increases. We always try to give the best p2p experience possible without compromising network performance, but please remember that it is a shaped and contended service and there is no guarantee of these speeds.

We do monitor the overall P2P experience on a constant basis and this is one of the benchmarks that we use to determine network upgrade requirements, but please understand that upgrades happen periodically on a forecast basis and we cannot simply add additional bandwidth at the drop of a hat when we see a dip in p2p performance. P2P users as a rule will always use up everything you give them and the more people who use it, the less there is to go around :D

Regarding bandwidth upgrades, as I've stated in the past, bandwidth requirements are reviewed and adjusted on a regular basis, both on the IPC front and when it comes to international capacity. However we do not communicate this information to the general public, or to our staff and any such feedback which you may have received in this regard from one of our call center agents is pure speculation on their part.

Regarding feedback and support on these forums I would just like to clarify that both MWEB Guy and myself are full time MWEB employees and official representatives in this channel. MWEB Guy is here to answer your day to day queries and provide technical assistance where required. However as a general rule we do not focus too heavily on discussions regarding p2p as we have stated our policy and the expected experiences in this regard on numerous occasions. If you have sought technical assistance as an individual and feel that MWEB Guy has not provided you with the proper feedback then please bring it to my attention via a PM and I will make sure he pulls up his socks :)

My role on this forum is to answer your questions in the broader sense regarding policies and network status and to engage in discussions such as this one and MWEB Guy will call on me for assistance as and when required. This does not mean that you can't approach me for assistance as well, but please understand that I have many other duties and if you want a speedy response then MWEB Guy is your man.

Kind Regards
Will

Can you maybe Tell me why gaming is much slower than what it used to be. I'm sure that is not due to shaping cause if it is I will be moving over to another ISP right away. Gaming doesn't take up massive ammount of bandwith well that is for the call of duty series

Nelis as far as we're aware the gaming performance has not deteriorated. Gamer's are generally quite quick to complain (I know as I am one myself) and I have not seen an upswing in gaming complaints to indicate that this is a problem.
I know that you have had a long running complaint with fluctuating pings and Black Ops performance and we have looked at many avenues to try and resolve this for you, however your experience is not indicative of the overall network performance currently and needs to be handled in isolation. If it will help I will call you again later myself and we'll see if we can take a fresh look at your situation and see if anything else can be done.

So in short Filesonic and other sites are now blocked instead of shaped during heavy network load, that has to be considered as throttling.

@Will, can you possibly explain then as to why the statements I made in this post are happening -> http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ers-Feedback?p=6724720&viewfull=1#post6724720

Irregardles of bouncing my router etc, nothing resolves the traffic issue. I could surf fine, hence my vocal complaints on this forum but both Steam and Eve non port 80 traffic were dead. When I left home this morning, everything was back to normal but it's the second night in a row that this has happened between those specific times.

Please note that nntp was not affected at the time however I wasn't using it at the time either as any p2p traffic would hamper pings in games.

If it happens again tonight I will post but probably only near 10pm as I'll be away for a function most of the evening.

We don't block or throttle anything Schumi, but sites of this nature are in the p2p class so the experience downloading from them will be reduced during the day depending on what p2p utilization looks like.

I believe that the p2p experience has dipped a bit in the last few weeks. Honestly this is too be expected from time, but the good news is that we do have a fairly significant upgrade to our network planned. The international bandwidth is actually already in place but our additional IPC requirements are running a little behind schedule. Telkom are pulling out all the stops to get this in place and we should see the upgrades coming through by the end of next week, possibly sooner.

Hi Kosmik, this sounds more like an isolated congestion problem than a widespread issue. I saw that you posted some tracert data which looked clean at first glance. MWEB Guy has your details so I will arrange for the necessary congestion and line checks to be done in the meantime and we'll see if we can get to the bottom of what's causing your problem.

The odd problem I have is p2p sites seem to be Ok, but then with no p2p downloads running, trying to download a driver from Nvidia, thats 2hrs at a speed of 50kb/s, this used to be close to 400kb/s, my line speed?

Mweb, it is going on a month now since i reported my issue and 3 days 19 hours since you received all the information requested again. No word or update what so ever after i worked my ass off to get you the info requested due to the nature of the problem.

Hi Purespyk

Nvidia driver downloads can sometimes be affected by slow Akamai sources and is a separate issue. We have been working for quite some time now to get an Akamai node hosted directly on the MWEB network, which would improve the situation with a lot of downloads of this type, unfortunately I can't provide you with an ETA on this.

I have no idea of the size of the mweb unshaped client basis, but I have been using it (4mb) since it came out and have had very few problems. I get about 300 Gb per month and email and browse quite happily. I wonder how many of these loud complaints are individual based. What I'm saying is what is the percentage of the complaints vs the total client base. It seems to me to very small and if correct would indicate specific invidual problems, it's not as though 100% of the client base is complaining. And no I'm not an MWEB employee!
