Hello guys

I know there are many feedback threads here, so before flaming me for another one, i just thought i would give my 2c for those wondering.

Here is my feedback, i must add here, that I'm a tv junkie and a sport freak, specifically rugby and cricket!!!!!

Previously, i used 2 x 30GB Local Only accounts and 2GB Afrihost account. Note : I had to restrict the amount of content i download because of 60GB monthly budget limit .

Total Data Cost p/m (R130 x 2) + R87 = R347

This is what i have and what I tested :

4MB ADSL line with Telkom
Got free 512k account with Mweb on the 22 March 2010
Upgraded to 4MB account 29 March 2010

512k Mweb Uncapped Free account :

Browsing : Excellent(Facebook, Newshost, Superbru,Banking etc)
Http download : avg 20-40KB/sec,after 10pm full speed
News Server Mweb : 20KB/sec during the day and 40KB/sec after 9pm
AstraWeb : 20KB/sec during the day and full speed after 8pm(55-60kb/s)
Youtube : Was ok, 50KB/sec, personally i think this i to slow to watch youtube videos without waiting
P2P : I dont use it
Supersport streaming : It will buffer every 30 seconds while browsing and streaming, but if your streaming only, PERFECT
http://www.livetv4ever.com streaming : Perfect, although their quality is crap

Overall Assessment : Perfect for browsing, emails and a bit of downloading, a 3 or 4 shows a week. I managed over 5GB over the weekend which isn't bad. So if you don't mind waiting for downloads, this is the option to get. But i HATE waiting so got the 4MB Uncapped Account

Mweb 4MB Uncapped(P.S. The account upgrade was quick and "painless" :D )
Since i have international now, i bought the 180GB special from astraweb, now i don't have to struggle with local news servers

Browsing : Excellent(Facebook, Newshost, Superbru,Banking etc)
Http download : avg 80-100KB/sec,after 10pm 150KB/sec - 200KB/sec(Haven't tried a download manager yet, this is with normal Google Chrome Download)
News Server Mweb : 50 - 100KB/sec avg day and night
AstraWeb : 200-220KB/sec day and night, but you can utilize your line completely if you know how
Youtube : Excellent, worked like a charm day or night, no buffering/waiting
P2P : I dont use it
Supersport streaming : PERFECT, plus you can download with news servers and browse
http://www.livetv4ever.com streaming : Perfect, although their quality is crap

Overall Assessment : Perfect for ME, i like doing more than one thing while on the net. Plus i can download to my harts desire at full speed after hours ;), so time to change all my tv shows over to HD :D:D:D Since yesterday Ive done about 15GB on news servers(mweb and astraweb). Best of all, i don't have to worry about a CAP anymore. So i will push the limit a bit, and see if i get a warning from MWEB and decide if R200p/m more(R539) will be worth it. All in all, im very happy since the upgrade.

Nice post,

I would really like to see some P2P (torrent) figures on the 4096k accounts during and after hours...

Love the post....
1 Question: What is the Astraweb 180GB package? You can get their 'best package' for only $11! That has NO restrictions!!

I cancelled my Giganews account so that I could go with Astraweb, I told Giganews and they couldn't care less.

Nice post but please qualify. 50kb/s is dial up speed, ie K56Flex. 20kb/sec is slower than 33.1Kbps dial up. If those are your true speeds than the service is worthless.

I think you meant b=BYTE not bit.

Note small (lower case) b = bit, capital (upper case) B = byte.
8 bits = 1 byte.

Dial up is about 5-6KB/sec.

Written genuine & good replied by you thanks.I am happy for your good suggestion
If not you need Online Reputation Management...Studies have shown that more than 70% of people tend to research companies or people online before entering into a business transaction with them.

So spamming is used to fix reputations, is it? :)

I believe the accepted forms are as follows:
kbps = bits
kb/s = bytes

That is how everyone else does it... dont be different!

Care to share how you arranged the upgrade of your free account? Did they let you pay in the difference, or did you take the plunge and sign up for a full-priced 4Mb account?

I've been trying to do this, and been shunted around between tech support, accounts and sales.

Peter is just a bit technical

How are guys getting full 4 meg speed on astraweb, i bottom out at 380kb/s

not sure who everyone is, but as far as i am concerned kb/s = kbps <> kB/s.

How do you stream Supersport? What does it cost? What's the quality like? I'm still looking for a cheap/free-ish way to stream rugby matches in decent quality. I only know of JustinTV, but the quality is crappy and framerate is choppy if you try to make it full screen.

It's quite easy actually, I would suggest using the Facebook group but otherwise drop Francisca an email, she was really helpful for my upgrade: [email protected]

She responded within 5 mins when i did my upgrade yesterday.

And yes, you have to pay a difference of R240 via Debit Order.

Only paid the difference, R200 something

I already made post about the contact person, but here it is again

You can contact Francisca Hamilton on [email protected] or 021 596 8817 for upgrades. Very very nice lady

you have to be a multichoice account holder and register on their website. quality is not bad.....but not that good either. their audio on the other hand is excellent. i can get a smooth stream on 384k line at work ;) , on fridays when im at work and the super 14 is on....or an ipl game or 2

EDIT : On now that im on uncapped, no bandwidth issues with the boss...

Thanks, but I was looking for a "cheaper than Multichoice" alternative to get my rugby fix. I can only afford one of the two, 4mb uncapped or Multichoice. I choose 4mb uncapped. :)
