My new car thread.

Okay, thanks for replies so far. Not interested in VW at the moment for 2 reasons:
1. The local VW dealer has a terrible name in terms of service since it went BEE.
2. A friend of mine bought a VW approved 2nd hand 2007 Polo 1.9Tdi, and it broke down twice on his first trip to Durban.

So thats definately a +1 for the Bantam 1.3i, now the thing is it doesnt come with any audio of sort, should I get ford to kit there audio system to fit the dash and work it into the price or leave it out and go with a aftermarket system?

Been told by someone at wesbank to have a look at the Opel Corsa Utility again - apparantly better resale.
The 1.3 is R80000 , thought your budget was R140?

I don't know about that story that an Opel has better resale value, but service wise it is the same as VW sometimes worse

It is R140 max, but less is always better :) If I get cheaper can get a bike aswell.

I am looking at getting a new car as my car broke down last week, the electrics all went up in smoke and they saying its gonna cost R8000 to sort out and it killing me. So I was looking at the Mazda 2 im not really a fan but I have to look at some thing economic what with the petrol price increasing on Wednesday

Well that does make sense, love bikes and quads!
Best use of the bakkie to load them on it and go play!
Then it would seem that you would have to just make the choice 1.3/1.6 power, depending on how you experienced the works 1.3, but yours would be better looked after.
The std 1.3 would propably be fine, except for some things:
No A/C, P/W, C/L
So if you are ok with that the no-Alarm and no-sound could easily fixed by going to a sound/security shop.
Security: I know of a guy in PTA Menlyn Retail that does awesome work with both Sound and Security and he is sort of the local fitter for the dealerships around there.
Sound:
Sound deadning/Dynamat(http://www.dynamat.com/products_automotive_dynamat_xtreme.html) is a must it makes a big difference and you would be better of to fit aftermarket sound(Pioneer, Sony, JVC), which is easy with a bantam.
There is another guy that also does good work in sound and knows everything there is about ford sound on the FordSTOwnersForum.

What car did you have?
Budget, Requirements besides Fuel Econo?
The Mazda 2 is a very nice car and is based on another very good car the new Fiesta which comes around Nov/Dec.
The handling is briliant -actually tested it around a track comparing it to the previous Fiesta model and even with the smaller engines(1.3/1.4 and 1.5/1.6) it was easily a second quicker, would to the more sporty drivers.
It could also sometimes be seen as a more womanish car, but with the right colour and accessory's it could easily be transformed.

Thanks bigbear. One thing i like though is when the audio system is built into the dash.
Whats the yaris t1 like? the 1.0l engine might kill me though :(

Suzuki Swift @133K
1500cc 78Kw
Aircon
Electric Windows
Power Steering
Six Airbags
Mp3/Radio
15" Alloys

Tested one at the dealer in Strand, seems really solid.

I drive a Ford Bantam 1.3i... Awesome bakkie, handles better than the Corsa Utility (My friend has one) It's also more fuel efficient... Ofcourse the Utility has a 1.4 engine, but I believe its heavier than the Bantam... I must say the Corsa has a better interior though...

When I drive 120 I get 13+...
When I drive like I drive I get +/- 11...

Acceleration in 4th gear is good enough to overtake most cars, top speed is +/- 180... Sometimes I wish I had the 1.6 for the extra bit of power, but then again I just look at the fuel prices and Im actually glad I have a 1.3l

Get an aftermarket mp3 player... Get the holder (metal holder, that you buy at ford for R150 and the mp3 player sits nicely in the middle, so it looks good) and I bought myself a a black Sony mp3 player with red lights, fits well with the bakkie...

A tip though, is to get someone to put the speakers in for you, pretty diffucult seeing as the clips that hold the door panels tend to break when removing them, thats why i got the Ford garage to fit them for me...

+1 on the Bantam

Thanks SlyFly, thats exactly my opinion to. As I said I currently have a 1.3i as a company car, know what you mean. Only problem i have with the only i currently have is the fact its a 2003 with no power steering or immobilizer which the new ones have.

Checked out the Tiida today, quite nice but nothing to great.
Was pleasantly suprised with the Hyundai Getz.. @ R115000 its not bad at all.

i did read the thread, i think rob should just work harder and get a Z, stop aiming so low

if you go the fiesta route, wait until the end of the year, then the new model (based on mazda 2) is suposed to come out...

...if you go the bakkie route i would for the opel ute, as it looks damn good specially in black

The Mazda 2 is based on the New Fiesta

any thoughts on the Tiida hatch? can get the 1.6 Visia demo for R120k.

Big no on the Tiida... Whoever designed that car needs to go back to 1920 and die, please :)

350Z is nice for powerslides ;)
